Steel wheels on Disc Brakes

I’ve got a set of the Wheel Vintique 62 series steelies. 6 lug with 4” back space 15”x 7”. I’ve got a 70 C10 with 6 lug disc brake conversion and a set of 2.5” CPP drop spindles. Has anyone used this combo on their truck before and will they fit without rubbing the calipers or spindles. I’ve not mounted tires yet and my truck is in a buddies shop so I thought I’d ask around before I went any further swapping them out.

Re: Steel wheels on Disc Brakes

I would do a test fit before mounting tires. My guess would be that they will fit but that's just a guess.

Re: Steel wheels on Disc Brakes

I have no solid information, BUT since these are modern produced wheels, I'd be reasonably sure they will fit your disc brake setup.
Post a couple of good pictures of them, especially the back side. There are sharp folks here that can take a quick look at them at tell you, yes or no...

Re: Steel wheels on Disc Brakes

A test fit is in order. With the dropped spindles and a 15" wheel the tie rod is the usual offender. The back spacing will be the determining factor. Be aware that the lip of the rim may clear but a clip on wheel weight may not. If it doesn't look like it will clear, have the wheel balanced with stick on weights. Better to check this in advance rather than later so you don't have to have the balancing done twice. It is possible to mount the wheel and then the weight hits when you drive off. (No need to ask how I know this. I just do. ) I have used 3/8" spacers before to get the clearance need to run 15's on dropped spindles.

I should add if you're using aftermarket calipers then all bets are off. I believe that everyone is assuming you are using a GM style caliper.

Re: Steel wheels on Disc Brakes

The Wheel Vintique 15x7 62 series advertise a 4.0 inch backspace as you stated.

From the below post, the truck rallys (15x7 and 15x8) are 4 inch or 3 5/8 inch and both are known to work fine with disk brake conversions.

I am guessing you will be fine.

Re: Steel wheels on Disc Brakes

Do you have an original 6-lug wheel to compare to? I would think WV would use the disc brake profile on all wheels built today

Re: Steel wheels on Disc Brakes

Thanks everyone, the wheels are in my shop down the road, I’ll try to post some good pictures when I run down there tomorrow. The calipers I’m using are GM style But an after market manufacturer. I was planning on using tape on weights cause I’ve known guys in the past including myself that have had issues with the clip on type not clearing the tie rod ends on certain applications.

Re: Steel wheels on Disc Brakes

Thanks HO455 I’ve got some 1/4” spacers on hand at my shop, these may help in a pinch if I’m getting a slight interference.

Re: Steel wheels on Disc Brakes

70 402 I would say if you’re running 8” up front and I plan on running 7” with 4” back space I should be in good shape. I assume you’re probably running the same 2.5” drop spindle cause your truck sets about the same as mine and I’ve got a 3” short spring with 2.5” drop spindle.
