Heater box pics - 1963 C20

Not sure, however, I believe I am missing some parts.
This is what I have... can anyone show pics o what it should look like?

Wondering which control valve from Rockauto is correct. There’s a manual one, and another one that attaches with a cable. Don’t recall seeing a cable that would control the valve.

Also wondering what the heater switch does. I saw one in the Brotherstruck catalog. I think my truck did not come with the deluxe heater, so does that mean the water is always going through the heater core?

Looks like you are missing the heater core. I have the same heater box that you have on my 63. The previous owner of my truck stuck in the deluxe heater control panel, but didn't change the heater box I am running a manual valve at the moment. Just have to remember to turn it on during the beginning of winter and off at the end.

2. Can I add a slider-control to my dash and use the other valve, the one that operates with a cable?

3. How do you determine which heater core is correct? With "re-circulating air heater" or "fresh air heater"?

You have the recirculating heater. Those did not come from the factory with any sort of coolant flow control valve. You can certainly add one either cable operated or hand operated. The recirculating heater controls have only 2 levers on the dash panel.

I got a couple pics of how mine is set up currently with a manual valve. The last two pictures were from when I first got the truck. I have no clue where that valve came from or what application it was actually meant for, but it was hooked up to one of the control levers in the dash. I believe the previous owner of my truck swapped in the deluxe heater controls. Unfortunately, the old valve developed a leak, so I ended up replacing it.

For your heater core, you need the recirculating air core.

From the looks of the other control valve in the picture from Rockauto, I do not see a place where the cable could attach, but if you could figure out a way to make it attach, you could probably make it work.

Hoping I can convert to the Deluxe heater, just wondering if I can do this with the existing heater box and heater core.

To convert to the deluxe heater, you would need all the parts and pieces that put the heater core and blower fan inside the engine bay

What if I just wanted to have control of the water going to the heater core?
Couldn't I mount a valve and connect a cable?

Yes, you could do that. That is what the PO did with my truck.

I wish I knew what the old valve came off of because I would have chosen to replace it with something similar rather than the manual valve that I am using now
