New key parts hood doesn't like my hinges

I got my hood today for my 67 from gmc pauls and it looks great, fits great. Stock key parts hood. One thing I don't like about it is rather than run foam across the entire hood between the rear hinge support and the hood skin they just put a blob on every 6 inches or so. The problem with that is when I pull the hood down it puts all the pressure on those spots as the hood flexes and puts outie dents in my hood. I think my hinges are shot and in my opinion it pulls down a little harder than it should, I will probably replace them. Has anyone had this problem and how did you fix it? New hinges? Billet hinges? Lighter hood spring? Run a good seam sealer entire width of hood to absorb pressure evenly? Any help is appreciated

New hinges or have them rebuilt. You could try lubricating them to see if it helps some first.

Wondering if you could remove the springs and see if it closes properly? Just a thought

I did yesterday. I think i will replace the hinges and try to remove the spots of sealer/foam and run a good bead across the hood otherwise it will keep pushing up on the spots. It didnt do this with the oem hood.

What is this "sealer foam"?

Originally they had a foam type seal between hood skin and supports underneath. You can use a urathane seam sealer now, something that stays soft and flexible.

You mean the anti-vibration foam strips wedged between the hood skin and hood frame? They don't seal anything.

Re: New key parts hood doesn't like my hinges

Sounds like the problem is in the blobs, not the hinges. I'd do whatever I could to place pressure evenly. Sounds like something Key Parts needs to hear about. They provide quality parts but it seems this method of using blobs is a bad idea. Do as GM did and you have a good part

Re: New key parts hood doesn't like my hinges

We just ran into this same issue. The hood is made of thinner metal then the OE hood and the blobs put two outtie dingers when the hood would close. Made it better by removing the glue joints and bending the lip of the rear structural support down further.

Re: New key parts hood doesn't like my hinges

Thanks thats what i was looking for. I think the metal is suppose to be the same thickness but even so its taiwan metal and doesn't have the same strength. It is what it is, i will clean it up and get the support even across hood. Beautiful hood other than that, i wish I'd ordered a fender to I bet they fit decent.

Re: New key parts hood doesn't like my hinges

Yeah, Key Parts does in fact make their parts with the same gauge as OEM. Factory hood are known to bow. The reinforcement is very much needed and the anti-vibe needs to be continuous so as to not localize the support
