Re: Thinking about staying with the 16.5 wheels until I figure out what I’m doing nex
I remembered I had the same issue when finding tires for my 15in. I went in to a tire shop called America's tire here in cali and the guy said he only had trailer wheels and said if I was sure I had 15 x7.. I ended up buying 15 x 8 and purchased BFGoodrich radial TAs from summit. I now want a 17in or 18in wheel. but thats for the future. Need to worry about other things on my truck first lol

The clips used in this conversion http://www.laroke.com/larryk4674/smo...er/hubcaps.htm are clips from a 40's-50's car. They are shorter than clips used on 3/4 ton pickups. It appears they will work, but they need to be mounted more vertically in wheel. Here is a source for the car clips https://www.chevsofthe40s.com/detail...ning_Clip.html , but I prefer original heavier duty clips from an 8 lug 3/4 ton.

I know the clips will keep the hubcaps in place, however, is there a way to secure them so they are not as easy to steal?

Are there 17” wheels that would fit the 8 lug pattern on a C20? Or, maybe 15”?

No 15" that I've ever seen - and no 17", at least not from this era. But there are factory 17.5" and 19.5" wheels that were available on these trucks - shown in order below (I believe the 2nd pic is from Yelmer's 66). To me, either of these are "the" wheel for this era C20s and 30s.

there are radial tires available for 16.5s. If you use the 16.5 wheels, you'd probably come out ahead even with the more expensive tires (and they aren't THAT much more expensive than 16" tires) because you don't have to buy wheels.
17.5s and 19.5s kinda leave you in bias play world (but there may be some radials out there, dunno) and I certainly understand not wanting that for a daily driver. |

There was a wide array of rim sizes back in the day, some of which were in multi-piece form. 15", 16", 16.5, 17, 17.5, 19.5. Some are easy to find, some next to impossible. Makes sense to go with one piece wheels that fit common tire sizes if you can find them (16, 17.5, 19.5). Factorystock makes an excellent case for retrofitting current wheels with period caps. Cheap wheels that fit newer tires, and it takes just just a bit of effort to make them appear correct.

15" snap rings oem on dad's 65 c20.. would continue using them but excessive corrosion deems them unsafe..
*not me, my son
