how much for a 350?
I have found a 350 in a van in junkyard. The decoded numbers on it are:
14016379...350...77-79...2 or 4 It is fairly complete(minus the carb). The seller thinks it may have been running when it came in. He is not sure if it is a 2 or 4 bolt. How much might a fair price be for it? Thanks... |

$100-$200 Especially if you don't know what it's like inside.

If its possible in the tight engine bay of a van, take off the oil fill cap(or the whole valve cover preferably) and see how much sludge and crap is inside the engine. If its pretty clean its probably a good engine. If theres white milky crap it has water in the engine from a bad head gasket or cracked block or head, stay away from that engine unless you can pull the heads and check it out closer. You can get rebuilt long blocks for cheaper than buying a junkyard engine and having to rebuilt it. Best is to find a running car or truck that the owner is trying to sell thats in bad shape or totaled from an accident. You may be able to buy a junker truck with a 350 for a few hundred bucks that will also give you more parts you can use. Theres a decent but ugly mid 70's C10 here in Grant that has $675 on the window.
