Hood Spring Question: Too old, too stiff??

Well, ever since I got my truck running again (little more than a year ago) my hood has never shut quite right in the back. So, thinking about it today, I pulled off my hood springs, and the hood shut nice and good. So, my question is...since they're the STOCK springs, and most likely rusted (They caused the hood to "kink" in the middle LONG ago), would that cause them to be TOO stiff to allow the hood to shut all the way?
Also, can I get new springs from the Chevy dealer?

The hood kink is caused by lack of lubrication on the hinges and/or somebody trying to shut it too hard.

This would fix half of your problem.

I don't know if the hinges or springs are still available from GM.

The hinges are still available. I put a set on my 73. Your original springs will be fine, it is the hinges that are the problem.

Hmm..I never thought of it being the hinges..I'll lube up the hinges today, and put the springs back on, and see what happens...
