Dash lights question

This should be an easy answer. So I am going to replace all the dash lights in my 67 GMC with LEDs. I only want to tear the dash apart 1 time. How many lights are back there?

Re: Dash lights question

I think some dashes take up to 12 bulbs...this depends on the number of gauges and such.

Re: Dash lights question

You don't need to tear the it apart. Just reach up behind it and twist the socket and it comes out with the bulb. There are 4 bulbs responsible for illumination, on left and right side of speedometer and left and right side of the gas gauge. The turn signal indicators, hi beam indicator, and brake warning lights may not do you any good to change, but it's up to you.

If you have an alternator light, I recommend leave that one incandescent. Instrument clusters that have gauges for temperature, battery, and oil do not have an alternator light, and the temp light is there but not connected so it is not functional.

Re: Dash lights question

It's pretty dirty back there so I'll pull it apart and clean everything while I'm at it. I'll get 6 bulbs. The 4 on the dash and the 2 turn signals. It's pretty basic so I don't think I need anything else. Thanks guys.

Re: Dash lights question

Make sure you get dimmable LED lights. and if they not work, turn them around in the socket as LEDs are polarity sensitive

Yes these ones are dimmable but we'll see if I have to dim them at all. They might just be cranked up all the way all the time. Not sure how bright it will be. Has to be better than what I have which is pretty bad. haha.

Re: Dash lights question

While you have it appart, check the ground connection. It isn't a very good design.

Re: Dash lights question

Here is what I put inmy truck 3/4 years ago, bought them from Amazon. Reached up under the dash and installed them. I've never tried to dim them as no need as they are perfect for pitch dark driving. I also snapped a pic of
them at dusk the other night.
