Fuse Block Bulkhead Repair

Hi everyone,

I am having a had time (read: unable to) locating the engine, light, and rear light harness bulkhead connectors and pins for the fuse block (engine bay side of the firewall connection).

I do not have any issues but I want to build replacements while I keep the truck operational.

Any leads?

Re: Fuse Block Bulkhead Repair

I figured they're just common female Packard-56 terminals. Do these look right?

Re: Fuse Block Bulkhead Repair

The bulkhead plug is Packard 56 & Packard 59 terminals like you linked.

The ATC/ATO fuse panel is mostly filled with Pak Con terminals along with a few Packard terminals for things like the flasher relays.

The only ones that get exciting are the ganged or bussed, depending on what you want to call them, Pak Con terminals in the fuse panels.

Re: Fuse Block Bulkhead Repair

I'm out of town so I cannot post any pictures.

I am looking for the housing for the packard connectors on the engine/headlight harness side. The bit that plugs into and presses in with the center bolt into the fuse block.

Re: Fuse Block Bulkhead Repair

Assuming this is for the 1979 C20 since the stock fuse panel is AGC glass fuses in the 1976.

The Male Packard 56 terminal forward lamp bulkhead plug is the obsolete Delphi Packard 8917233

https://www.mouser.com/catalog/specs...g_08917233.pdf

It should be fairly straightforward to release the terminals from this plug and insert new ones as long as it's not damaged. Male terminals are a little more difficult to release than female but it can be done with a pair of needle nose pliers and some patience.

If it's chewed up or melted you can get this out of a range of GM vehicles from 1979 through the mid 1980's at least.

That sure looks like it! It is for the 75/76 C10, are they different from 79 on?

That is a very nice offer, thank you. Depending on what Hatzie says above I will take them if they are the same for a 75/76 model.

Re: Fuse Block Bulkhead Repair

The break down In mid year 1980- 1981-87 are different from the, 73-79 front half of 1980 for the bulkhead. As 81-87 they when to plastic blade type fuses. As 73-79 they where glass type fuses.

Re: Fuse Block Bulkhead Repair

This is a picture of the harness connector from a 1977 k20.
It has glass fuses.
It looks very similar.
I could compare the terminals if you need me to.
Do you have a Pick a part junk yard near you?
If so you could probably get the whole thing there.

Here's the picture of 77 with glass fuses

Re: Fuse Block Bulkhead Repair

The part numbers for the bulkhead plugs are in the wiring diagrams.
1973 & 74 used a smaller bulkhead plug than 75 & later.

1975-1986 CK P & G and the 1987-1991 RV P & G chassis used the same bulkhead plug for the lights. Probably many of the GM fullsize cars as well. Mid 70's on B Bodies like the Caprice, Impala, Parsienne, etc are likely donors and probably the G bodies and even the X bodies.

Re: Fuse Block Bulkhead Repair

Thanks guys, you always come through with help and assistance when asked.

I think I will hold off, eventually I plan on getting a new fuse block so I might as well tailor it all to mesh when that happens.

Re: Fuse Block Bulkhead Repair

If you're dead set on updating the wiring get the cab harness from a 79-82 with the plastic ATC/ATO fuses.

Download the wiring diagrams for the donor and the 76.
You can re-pin the 76 engine bay plugs to mate with the later bulkhead plug. IIRC there are only a few differences.

The heater/AC and dual tank wiring will plug directly into the new harness. Your 76 wiper motor is wired differently from the 78 and later but you'll be able to put delay wipers in if you want them.

Solid advice, thank you. Not real sure on which route I will take but I am leaning toward one of the kits (American Autowire I think) and go from there. If I am going to do it, I might as well do it.
