I got staples from one of the usual classic car parts places. I think they came with the rubber seals. Then I held the piece in a vice and used a very small drill bit and held the rubber tight to the metal and drilled through the existing holes in the metal, into the rubber all the way through. I then used channel lock pliers to push the staple through and bend the ends over. They look perfect. I was dreading this step of my restoration but it ended up being pretty easy. Just be sure not to drill holes through your fingers!

Thanks Rocknrod, I ordered the 9 gauge stainless wire. Probably overkill but any rust I can avoid Im for it. Ill use Nsb29's tip on the 45 degree cut to help punch them through.

I like the vise and drill idea Submariner616, I'll clamp it up and hope mine goes easy too.
