Need help with part

I recently picked up a 1986 Silverado K10 and I need help with a part. I believe its the coolant temperature sensor but when I look up the part, the new one doesn't look like what I have. My connector only has one wire and the new ones have 2 wires. Was this part updated by Chevrolet at some point or am I looking for the wrong part?

Here is my old sensor that I pulled out. The prong(s) were brittle and broke off. When I look at RockAuto and other places they look like this one:

And since we all like pictures

I actually looked at my buddy's 86 Monte yesterday and he has the 2 wire sensor. I'm wondering if I need to update it.

If your gauge is still working, that temp sensor is not really needed. There are 2 temp senders on the engine, 1 for the gauge and 1 that somehow works with it. Not sure what PA's laws are on your emissions check for one that old. If the gauge is working and emissionsions isn't a deal, then put in a pipe plug to bypass that one.

The ones with the one prong are senders which I "think" would go to the gauge\light. I believe I need the sensor but in order to use that I would have to change my wire for the plug.
