Seals for Holley fuel transfer tube

Just rebuilt a Holley and the new kit provided some sort of boots to seal each end of the fuel tube (connecting front and back bowls) - had never seem those before - normal sealing in past has been done with "O" rings. Not good so far - they both leak.

Is there some unique trick for installing these boots so they will seal properly (I did lightly lube the tube) and what might I have done wrong? Will go digging back into the left-over seals/gaskets to see if the kit also provided "O" rings as well, and probably will install those in an effort to end the leaking.

But, if you have experience with these boot type seals and can give insight on how to succeed, I would like to know. Thanks.

That boot is the new style.
Made for a tube that doesn’t have the little ridge. Just smooth pipe.
You need o rings for the ridge type tube.
I use Vaseline on the ends of the tubes and o rings to get them on and sealed.

Parts store should have o rings.

Thanks geezer - makes sense now that you gave the update.. All of the Holleys here are plenty old - no smooth pipes. I will find the needed "O" rings. Thanks again.

The O-rings need to be for the new fuel or it will eat them up in no time.

If you are talking about fuel with ethanol - good caution - although the big problems for me were corrosion in fuel tank and lines with resulting residue crud clogging and getting past filters, and eating fuel pump diaphragms. No "O" rings eaten yet.

But, I am no succeeding in keeping real gas (no ethanol) in the old trucks so have not been worried as in the past. Is "new gas" something else beyond the ethanol?

I have a chance to get a supply of AV gas - any problems there?
