Dakota digital cruise control problems

Im installing the Dakota Digital HND-2 switch on my ‘55 with a drive by wire 5.3/4l60e. Ive got power through the switch and verified 12v on all functions of the cruise switch and brake switch but it won’t “set” the cruise. Im stumped

Re: Dakota digital cruise control problems

What kind of a control module are you using?
The HND-2 is meant to be used with Dakota Digitals DBC cruise control.

Re: Dakota digital cruise control problems

Several questions... What year is your engine? Do you have both brake switch inputs hooked up? Do you have LED taillights?

Re: Dakota digital cruise control problems

Engine is a 2003, no led taillights. I have a 4 prong brake switch with the purple TCC hot when brakes off and the light blue wire to the tac on the same side as the taillight wire.

I assume you mean the light blue wire is on the same side as the brake lights so that it gets power when the brakes are applied and not the taillights. So it sounds like its wired right. You can try adjusting the switch in a bit so that you have to press the brake pedal a little further before the brake lights come on. I have seen that fix it before.

Also, when you were testing the switch, did you do it at the TAC plug?

Re: Dakota digital cruise control problems

Just checked out your build thread real quick, looks good, but how far along is the truck. Further than your thread I guess? You say you dont have LED brake lights, but do you actually have brake lights installed now? You are testing it on the road too, and not on jack stands right? Also, I am curious, how did you mount the brake switch?

Re: Dakota digital cruise control problems

Yes life got busy with kids so I didn’t have a lot of time to work on the truck let alone keep up the build thread. This will be my second summer driving the truck and it’s been running great. I haven’t checked the tac plug itself just the connections at the switch, I will find a pin out and check that next. The brake light switch is bottomed out on the pedal already and I checked voltage there with brakes on and off and it’s functioning as it should.

Re: Dakota digital cruise control problems

Ok so I’ve checked all the connections at the tac connector. I’m getting 11.95v on pin 14( cruise on pwr) and the same when I check pin 4 and 5 for the other two functions. Pin 6 is the brake light wire and I’m getting 11.65v there. It’s seems to all be checking out as it should but still won’t engage.

Re: Dakota digital cruise control problems

I’ve also checked pin 33 on the pcm to confirm I’ve got signal going to the pcm from the brake pedal. Is there maybe something with the vss I’m not seeing? The harness I have had on output for the Speedo and it is working fine.

Re: Dakota digital cruise control problems

If your speedo is getting its signal from the PCM and it's working, then it isn't a VSS issue. You say the brake switch is bottomed out against the pedal? It looks like I can still see a bit of the plunger part sticking out? Also, is it inside the cab? From that pic, I cant tell how it's mounted, so still curious how you mounted it with the pedal coming out of the floor.

Do you have any kind of scanner that would show cruise control info? That would tell you if your brake inputs are both working.

Re: Dakota digital cruise control problems

I’ll try and get a better pic. It’s a firewall mounted brake setup. I’m gonna try and find someone with a scanner.

Re: Dakota digital cruise control problems

Was this ever resolved? is the issue with the pulse signal from the trans being to high? I think it needs to be toned down to 4k pulse. DD has a part SGI-100BT. I am curious if this would solve your issue.
