Is this a stock seat? 68 C10
I'm having a few problems installing some aftermarket 3 point belts and am just curious if the seat I have in my 1968 is a stock seat or what. It has little nubs on the sides of the brackets which connect the seat bottom and back-the "nubs" have a bolt and nut on them(presumably to fold down the rear back part of the seat if its removed). The little nub is interfering with the reels for the seat belts. Looks like I will have to hack away the circle nub thing and somehow put some bracket in there to remove that fold down feature to get the reel to sit properly. Doesn't seem like anyone else is having this issue so now I'm curious if it has a non-stock seat in it. Pictures below. Let me know what you think.

Lookin like a stock seat structure but it has been recovered - but no idea what that welded on nonsense by the aftermarket retractor is...

Looks like a home made trailer park back rest stop
I would remove it replace the missing bolt to hold it in place if it sat back to far with the goofy stop removed |

Well this is all good to know!
So that whole circle nub and bolt thing is added on?! Does anyone have a picture of a stock seat bracket at this point? And is the back suppose to be fixed and not fold down? What bolt am I missing? |

Re: Is this a stock seat? 68 C10
ya know, that's a great point - when I rotate and blow up the original and compare to another 67 I've got a pic of, it could indeed be the original seat stop. Here's two pics to compare. Perhaps it's a 67 seat in your 68(?) Someone else pls confirm, I've never seen a 67 seat stop in person, if there is such an animal...

Yes, you have a stock 1967-1968 seat. The seat back folds forward. Remove the "wingnut" off of the bolt on the seat bracket near your seat belt and it will fold forward.

Re: Is this a stock seat? 68 C10
After looking at this article about recovering a 67-68 c10 seat, it appears that this is stock as lil hoodlum said- https://www.hotrod.com/articles/reco...eryImageId=359
The initial response I got from Morris (who made the seat belts) was that the piece is nonstock but that appears incorrect. Its frustrating because if there bottom bracket of the seat belt where it attaches to the floor was bent to follow the contours of the floor better, the whole reel would be situated underneath the little nub and work fine. What are my options to convert this type of fold-able seat to the later years so I can remove this "nub"? If anyone has a picture of a 69 seat or later at this point, I would appreciate it. I got a welder and some time. Nick |

Re: Is this a stock seat? 68 C10
you have a 67 early 68 flip forward seat , They are harder to find than the 68-72 seat frames you would be doing yourself a dis service by changing it out to the later model seat and you'll loose the ability to fold the seat forward for access and the ability to adjust lean back by using the adjusters (wing nuts) If you don't want the flip seat trade it off to someone who does , Personally I'd make the seat belt bracket fit the truck not add another project changing the seat to fit the aftermarket seat belts .

Yep, that looks just like my factory ‘68 seat, only with the addition of a wing nut. The welds on your stop bracket looks just as messy as the ones on mine.

Re: Is this a stock seat? 68 C10
I'm 6'3 and the seat is going to come down with those 2" drop brackets (once I get to installing them), which means it will have to modified/clearanced regardless to allow for the proper placement of the seat belt-reels (once the seat is lowered there is no way the reel will fit under those tabs no matter how the brackets are bent).
Can anyone explain how the 69-72 fixed back seats are assembled where the back and bottom meet? Are the whole frames connected or is there just something different in the braces on each side? Guess I will have to pull the seat and figure something out. Not having a foldable seat doesn't bother me, but having improperly placed seat belts certainly does. |
