Turbo 200R4
Has anyone put a 200R4 in their 67-72 ? I was told it’s a direct bolt in in place of a short short 350 , I have a bone stock 72 with a 350/350 combo , with 3:73 gears , sound like a quick and easy swap !

I put a 2004r in my '69 Suburban behind the low HP crate engine. No problems with the install. I bought the BowTie Overdrives lockup and kickdown kits and everything went well with that. The pressure settings are critical so make sure they are spot on. I originally had a 3.07 rear gear and that didn't work. When the transmission was locked up it would overheat. I changed out the rear end for a 3.73 and had no more problems with that. There were no modifications made to the transmission, it was stock. LockDoc

Re: Turbo 200R4
On the 2004R the mount is at the extreme rear of the tail shaft so you have to relocate by re-drilling the frame. Other than that the throttle position cable adjustment is critical and parts for activating the lockup converter it is a direct swap

Re: Turbo 200R4
I installed a 200-4r in my 70. I used the Bowler Transmission Lockup Control Module and Tru Shift TV Cable. Worked perfect from the first drive. 373 gears.

Re: Turbo 200R4
The 200-4R is the same length as a power glide and/or a short shaft 350. I changed the 350 in my truck to a 200-4R behind my 292 and all I did was slide the transmission mount all the way to the back, bolted it up and installed the original drive shaft.

Re: Turbo 200R4
Yes it is an easy swap.
Just have to move the cross member back to the holes for TH400. No drive shaft changes. As mentioned you do need to setup the transmission pressure controls properly or it will burn up. Also I ran into one issue with the neutral safety switch. If you pull the shift lever all the way down to 1st it will break off the tab on the switch(plastic).

Re: Turbo 200R4
I was headed that route, I even bought a core. But when I started talking to rebuilders I changed my mind. They pretty much all said no problem unless you are going to tow with it. Apparently 200r4's don't survive when used for towing. I think it was Art Carr who said it would be fine if the weight of the tow was under 500 pounds.
