66 C10 Big Block Swap
Hey guys! My fiancée and I are in the process of building a 66 c10. We picked it up a few years ago and we’re finally starting to get moving along on the project. We pulled the old tired 283 and turbo 350 out and bought a 454 and a 700r4 to replace it. A few weeks back I pulled the front clip and got everything cleaned up. We also purchased a set of big block motor mounts from Classic Performance Products (CPP) that come with little instructions. I know the frame has to be notched for this to fit in the factory mounting locations. I’m just curious if anyone has used them, and if they have any pictures or insight on what to do. Thanks in advance!

Well those are new. Back when I was doing mine all I could find were tubular mounts or use the 67 and up BB mounts. Here is my build. http://www.67-72chevytrucks.com/vboa...=259536&page=2 By the looks of those mounts, it seems you don't have to notch the frame at all. You can always call the vendor you bought them from and get more info from them. Another way is to just mock up the engine and see how it fits. I had my engine in and out about 20 times putting mine together.

The '68+ frames were narrower on the top flange for exhaust manifold clearance for the big blocks. So depending on what you plan on using for exhaust, you may or may not need to trim the top flange in the engine bay area. I did it on my '66 Suburban.

The 396 that was in mine when I got it had manifolds that appeared to "self clearance themselves long before I got the truck. I think it was on the original motor mounts when I got the truck.
Fast forward to when I put the 7.4 in and wanted to run a set of Thorleys that I was given. Had to notch a small half moon for the #4(?) cylinder in the top rail. It can just barely be seen in the photo. This is on the same mounts that came with the truck as well. Only thing I'd do different is maybe move the engine 1" forward. Makes getting the passenger side VC off possible without every possible conjugation of curse words in the English language and even a few that were of unknown origin . Chevy Fleetside might be right in that the new mounts might be raising the engine to where you won't have to clearance anything. FWIW, Im not sure what the 2wd -4wd frame differences in that area are either so YMMV
