Gonna flat black it!
Decided i'm gonna flat black the 84 for now. What paint should i use? I've heard John Deere Blitz Black is good and cheap. Anything else i should look into. This is just temporary, unless i really like it, so the cheaper the better.
I'll make ya'll a deal, help me out, and i'll post lots of pics. :p |

If you paint it flat black, you got to run some white walls and bright red rallys with half moons.

Whatever you do don't use any kind of rustoleum product. We used it as a temporary solution on my wifes 98. It took 3 days to get that crap off. Had I known I would have just gotten a cheap auto paint and had flattening agent added. I here the blitz black is also a bish to get off.

I would suggest just using some black primer, not in a spray can.

I say spray can it flat black and go with the red rallys, no whitewalls needed.
If you know someone who will shoot it for a 6 pack, then I would just get some cheap primer. Can't wait to see it...

Flat black looks great on old trucks. I have a 74 lowered shortbed GMC and want that street rod look. I have seen some old street rods with that flat black paint and It looks really great. What type of paint should I use??? I dont want to use primer, I want something that is gonna last and isnt gonna rust. Anyone have a pic of their truck post it.

The '54 above is Jesse James' car and it's painted with John Deere Blitz Black. The one thing you have to be aware of with JDBB is that it's an industrial grade paint......it's VERY tough and holds up well, but is not easy to remove if you're planning on doing that.
If you want the JDBB stuff you'll need to contact an industrial tractor supply company near you and they may have it in stock (or a John Deere parts store). Here are the following John Deere part codes you'll need for the products along with the prices I was quoted locally. Blitz Black Paint - TY6416 - $28 gallon Primer (special primer for industrial paint) - TY6457 - $30 gallon Reducer - PT158 - $15 gallon Hardener - REN3001 - $37 quart I was going to do this to my '76 Blazer (which is now for sale BTW) and was going to purchase a little more than I thought I needed just to be safe. I was going to get 2 of each of everything except reducer and it was going to be right around $220 out the door for materials. Hope this helps....post pics when you're done!!! |
