Ebay door panels supposedly fit 73-87
A couple places selling NOS GM door panels for a good price on Ebay but there really for the later models. Seller says they will fit all years. Anyone know for sure if they'll fit my 74?

A lot of sellers use the 73-87 keyword to maximize coverage to their auctions and some stretch it to the limits to their actual fit. You got to do the research and have the savy to ask questions to avoid getting too excited in the find and the auction. In your case, they may not work, as the 74 door inside mechanics are different I believe.

You can make them work. The door panels are a little longer, you will need to use the armrest stands from the newer door panels, and use self tapping screws at the bottom of the door. it can work, but it won't be 100% right.

If you look on ebay right now, the door panels I saw were the 81-up variety. You CAN make them work on a 73-76 door. You are correct in saying that the 73-76 panels will not work on the later doors. He has 74 doors, and is looking at later style panels. Pay attention.

So what's the verdict guys. I'm really looking for the best option and I'm kind of screwed anyway with that beautiful 70's green interior. I haven't seen any 73-76 door panels on Ebay that's why I'm asking about the later ones.
So it sounds like the later ones will work but is it worth it and can I get them in my favorite color? I don't even know if seat covers or carpet are available in green. |

I started with the same beautiful green interior. It's tan now. I put in a set of door panels out of an 81-up truck, and they fit ok, with the later moder arm rest stands (the 90* sheetmetal bracket that bolts to the armrest) and use self tapping screws to hold the bottom of the door panel on. There are a couple pics on the thread asking about what color to dye the dash.

If you look in the Year One catalog they list 73-76 Silverado door-panel design replacements. They are available in green and are listed for $169.00/pair. DP736GRN is the part number. The arm rests are also available in green. ARP73GRN and they list for $59.95/pair. They also have green carpeting and green vinyl seat covers. Forget Ebay on these, as they rarely if at all, are listed in green.

I've been looking for a thread for the last half hour where we covered in great detail the differences in door sheet metal stampings and door panels for the 73-76 and 77-87 styles. Chris had some good pics that show exactly what the differences are. I'd probably not use the later door panels on the earlier doors, but yes it could be done.
If anyone knows what thread I'm talking about, please post a link. Joe |
