4 or 6 inch lift

why are some 4 inch lifts equivalent to others 6 inch lift. im trying to figure out if i have a 4 or 6 inch lift. i measure just under 29 inches from center of hub to wheel well center. if your running a 4 or 6 inch lift would you please measure and let me know. thanks much. currently on 35"s. the ride is super stiff and considering going to a 2 inch lift soft springs on 33"s

I am in the exact same situation. Truck came with 35x12.5 Mud Terrains and I want to go to a 33x12.5 All Terrains to improve road manners. My truck will primarily be used on the road with some snow and gravel roads but no serious four wheeling. I like the look of a tire that fills the wheel well so I have thought about lowering the truck a little bit but am confused by all the different lift/tire combos and the fact that so many are different. I also need to be careful of lowering too much because I do not want my LS Swap cross member to interfere with the front differential.

Mine measures 24" from the center of the hub to the top of the wheel arch. I believe a have a 4" lift since I have a 4" block in the rear. I like how the truck sits very level although you cannot really see that in this picture.

Tmend - that to me looks like a 6" lift.

CIBlazer - that looks like a 4" lift.

Here's mine - 6" Alcan springs up front (ride great) and a shackle flip in the rear w/ 2" Alcan springs. Riding on 37's





If I were you I'd get custom springs from Alcan (or another) so you can get the softer spring rate you desire. 2" lift and 33" tires ought to be perfect.

Here is my old '72, had a 4-inch Skyjacker Soft ride on it (front springs, rear blocks) with 35x12.50x15 tires. Rode pretty good, I put 35x12.50x17's and it firmed up the ride with less sidewall. Another board member purchased the Blazer from me, Mudduck74, so it's somewhere around Battle Creek, Mi last I knew.

would u be able to measure from center of ur hub to wheel well center. i may just buy shocks for now my are blown want to confirm i have a 6 inch lift. these customs springs are pricey. thanks much

I have a skyjacker 3/4 ton 4" spring only lift. I can measure in a few hours.

~29.25" from center of hub to wheel arch. Probably closer to 29" if you take out the bend i had to make to go around the tire bulge.

SeventyOne you were correct 6 inch lift thanks much also thank you mister.freeze. i ended up ordering a 2.5 lift kit and going with 33's. this ride was just to stiff for me and the fam.

...unless the spring rate is different on the 2.5" springs you may not get the ride quality you want

i hope they are. i did some asking around on the facebook group for 69-72 blazers and people running the skyjacker soft ride springs on 33's had good stuff to say. it has to be way better the a 6 inch lift from a 4 inch block and 2 inch helper add-a-leaf

Looks like I only have a couple of inches between my engine cross member and the front diff so lowering the truck may not be an option. Will the road handling change much going from 35's on 15" rims to 35's on a 16 or 17" rim? Will that little change in sidewall be noticeable? Maybe I just run 33's on a 15" and deal with the extra gap in the wheel arch.

i would say going bigger rim on smaller sidewall will be a rougher ride. if ypu like your lift they make soft springs. threes a company off road designs. they will make you customs springs based on your set up. (LS swap,bumper set up,top or no top and so on)

I noticed a difference when I switched from 15" rims to 17's. The 15's felt squishy, especially in corners and the 17's firmed up the ride. With the Softride lift it still rode great, just wasn't as loose feeling with the 17's.

MJN, was your experience with 35" tires? That is what I am experiencing on my truck. More a squishy loose feeling than a harsh ride. Thought decreasing the sidewall might help.

Yes, still 35x12.50 tires, just changed from a 15" aluminum rim to a 17" steel rim. It wasn't perfect but it helped.
