Radiator sizes??

I am working an a Jimmy but I think this applies to four wheel drive trucks as well. My Jimmy came with a radiator but it sits slightly above the rad support and doesn't fit the bottom support channels very well. It has some funky spaces on the upper retainers to make up for that.

Looking at parts books online I believe a 1972 Jimmy w/o A/C and a 350 and automatic came with a two row rad with the transmission cooler. A/C trucks came with three and four r? Or do I have a radiator out a newer truck because it sure doesn't fit.

The 4 core takes a wider seat. It won't fit into the 2 core holder, so that might be why yours sits high.

Re: Radiator sizes??

There have been numerous threads about this. I have a 4 row rad in mine and with the proper mounts and cushions it stood up too high still. I, and others, cut the back side of the upper and lower cushions to half thickness to lower the rad. Some made spacers to place under the top rad retainers. I thought mine due to being an aftermarket radiator for the ill fit.

Re: Radiator sizes??

Thanks. Does anyone repop the lower brackets? I think using a 4 core is better but I hate it sitting up. Pulled my gas tank tonight and two holes. So that's next on the list.

If your truck originally had the 2 or 3" core radiator and you are installing a 4" core with 4" core lower saddle brackets, the lip on the back of the core support will have to be bent down so that the bracket will sit down flat on the core support. If that wasn't done it will make the 4" saddle sit higher in the back.
