I can drive it to work, tow a trailer, haul with it, take it hunting, camping, cruising, it does everything i need it to. I can maintain it, repair it, wash it and polish it. And when I climb into it, it fits like an old glove.

What I like about owning my truck is that this era of truck have "class and character". This was the generation of trucks that started the wave of popularity for trucks.

Since mine is not road worthy yet it is a source of distraction from everything going on around me. Wife and I just became official empty nest folks and it is really a bittersweet time. When I closed the garage door last night and turned off the outside lights because nobody was coming home I was hit kinda hard.

My father in law has been in the hospital for weeks and it doesn't look like he will ever go home. At times I wonder if he will ever leave the hospital. Fast decline in the past 4-6 weeks. Really tough on my wife (of course) but he's been my only father since mine passed away about 15 years ago.

Being able to work with my hands and think/plan on the truck has been nice. Not to mention I love working on stuff so it gets me that fix as well. Thinking I'll be ready for the road by spring if the $$ hold out. May not have a bed on it by then but I can get it to a front end shop and exhaust shop at least.

Owning a C10 in the middle of a sea of hybrids,Teslas, BMWs, and Mercedes, is my big middle finger to the big city rat race.

Best thing is... it makes my wife shake head, she doesn't understand why I jump into Otis everyday when I have a perfectly good 2008 Duramax sitting there.

She will never understand.

I like my trucks because they're simple, vintage and cool. I appreciate old stuff.

I like my C20 because I can beat on it, much doesn't work and in my case it doesn't have to. I like my C10 because I see it as more/less a collection vintage on four wheels better than new.

I'd like to add these are very fun to drive. I've driven quite a mix over the years, such as Trans Am, vintage Porsche, Torino, Dart, Chevelle, and lots newer. For me Chevy's are second only my 71 Mazda RX2 coupe on a stick. That car was fun as the and I was one too, it only lasted me three months. We did a 180 - Unmolested less a new Wankel engine too Exhaust second to few or none (WACK WACK WACK WACK).

The exhaust on a old BBC is rich too. I pull around a corner in my C20 people don't know what's comin' at em Can't even remember what my other BBC sounds like, too long since I drove it, but it was more tamed.

I was born over a decade after they stopped making these trucks, so my truck allows me to experience something I was never able to. In a time where car manufacturers are adding more electronics and gadgets to vehicles, these old trucks are a departure from that and get back to basics, I love the simplicity. Owning this truck has been a huge learning experience for me too. I always had mechanical skills but never really worked on vehicles, and I have since dropped the truck, rebuilt the front end, and fixed some issues with the engine. The truck allows me to occupy my mind and my time with something productive and that I can be proud of. It's also cool having something different than everybody else, no one around has a truck exactly like mine and they can't just go to the dealership and buy one. And of course the comments and thumbs up I get while driving it are nice!!

The best part of driving a 50 year old, unrestored flat back stepside in Huntington Beach (Classic Car Mecca) is the jealous looks from all those guys (and some gals) in their Priuss and Teslas...

Back when one of my younger brothers was still alive, he was in a gas station putting gas in the 22 gallon fuel cell that was between the rear wheels for traction in his '62 long bed truck, and some gal gave him some grief about how he should be saving gasoline like she was with her econobox. He thanked her for saving more fuel for him. Generally speaking, we're all stewards of the planet. But when someone is stupid enough to think that their battery-powered car isn't charged (at likely a loss of efficiency) by fossil fuel plants that just so happen to not be in their state, they get the bump-back.

For me what I love about (Zooey) my truck is, she's simple no airbags backup assist wifi or navigation, she's got a timeless design read the truck magazines since the 80's, since I got her I've been pretty much building her from the ground up the way I would've ordered her from Janesville. Since she's extremely common, parts are stupid easy for the most part to get. Plus, it's a way to relax from the daily stress (somewhat lol) and the hustle and bustle of daily life, take your anger out on a rusty old part or old windshield lol. Plus absolutely no payments it's my truck my way

I'm the same way, half the components don't even work in the old dog, roof leaks and that. I have a 2013 5.7 TRD Rock Warrior & 2014 Subaru where everything works & low miles. Most times I assume drive the dog.
