Hi I'm New
I'm new & looking forward to Joining the board. My wife has been hounding me for years that she wants a custom pickup. So I found her a 67. I'll bring it home Friday. This will be her truck and her project and I'll be adviser and shoulder to cry on when she screws up. To build the truck I've offered her my 85 pro streeter Silverado for parts. The game plan may be to remove the cab from the tired fram and mount it to 73 frame that's under the 85 model.
This will cut her cost on building the truck she wants. It also gets me out from a truck that is no longer legal because of changing inspections laws. I have a question has anybody compared the frame of a 73 to a 67. I'm wonder if cab mounts would be in the correct area. and if the floor pans are similiar. The floor pan on the 67 is in some need of work and I wouldn't be opposed to making a custom floor if we had too. I'm not concerned about wheelbase and other such things I can move the rear end to whatever position it needs to be in. With any luck she'll have a real sweet ride with 4 wheel disk brakes, power windows and doors, air and a powerful motor with 4 speed. suggestions and ideas anybody? |

hey, welcome to the board, this topic has been covered before, and from what i have experienced first hand is this is not an easy swap, the newer frame goes up underneath the cab where as the 67 doesnt go up until after the cab, i put my 67 cab on an 85 frame and it had a huge rake, we ended up getting a 71 frame and shortening it, so unless you want a big body lift on a 2wd i think youd be better off with the 67 though 72 era of frames..but anything is possible with the right tools and knowledge

know that you mention it I remember the kick up in the floor where the seat area would be in the 73 and up model. Well I'll look into this more but I don't have a problem with channeling the body over the frame. Gotta move the fuel tank anyway. I've built many street rods over the years. Plasma cutters, mig welders and sheetmetal brakes are stuff that is in the arsenal of tools. The real project here is teaching the wife how to do it. it's her truck.

Might be easier to just take the front crossmember and rear end off the newer truck and put on the older frame. The crossmember will bolt up, you just have to slot 2 holes in the frame and maybe dimple the frame for the PS setup.
