Looking for a good carb rebuilder

My local guy has shut his doors. Been there since the 50s can't blame him he was in his late 80s . But like its says need someone to rebuild my carb not exchange as it looks to be the original on my 68 327 .

One I have looked into is Carburator USA in New Jersey. Seems like they have a good reputation but I'd like to hear some opinions and options .

Re: Looking for a good carb rebuilder

The best carb rebuilder is you. You will go slow, make sure everything is perfect. Clean each part. Set floats perfectly. Use the correct matching gaskets. Put check balls where they're supposed to go. Give it a try, you'll like it.

Re: Looking for a good carb rebuilder

I used to do them all the time. But when carbs get to old they sometimes need to be more than rebuilt. The guy I knew used to recoat the metal so there was no porosity . The place in Jersey does the same.

A frankly I dont like doing it.

Re: Looking for a good carb rebuilder

If you truly can't or don't want to do it yourself, call Cliff www.Cliffshighperformance.com (1-740-397-2921) Cliff does NOT build carbs any more. He IS selling parts though. I got a kit and some parts 2 weeks ago. When you call him, CLiff WILL be the one answering the phone.
Quadrajetpower.com is THE ONLY company that Cliff endorses for car rebuilding work. There may be another coming soon. You'd have to talk to Cliff about this new builder..

DO NO, DO NOT EVER trade your original carb in for a core, if you go another direction, EVER...

Give Jon at the carb shop a call. He does kits etc and may still offer rebuild services. A lot of folks with older vehicles ( back into the teens use him)

Talking Re: Looking for a good carb rebuilder

I have a guy here local in SC that has been building carburetor's his whole life. He even spent time with some of the famous NHRA dragster teams building them. He does them at his own shop.

He took my Edelbrock carburetor that the shaft was loose and fixed it. Elelbrock doesn't have a kit for it. The throttle bore linkage was leaking, it was worn out. He took it a part and made me a set of bushing's and put it back together. It ran great!

He has my Ramp truck carburetor now doing a complete rebuild on it.

Get out and drive the truck this summer and have some fun!
It sucks not being able to hear!

LWB trucks rule, if you don't think so measure your SWB!
After talking to tech support at Air Lift I have found out that the kit I need is 60811. Per the measurements I gave them. Ride height of truck inside spring and inside diameter of springs.

The AFB on the Buick went to http://www.nationalcarburetors.com/ for rehab. Haven't touched it in four years since.

Jon does sell good parts. He no longer works on carbs, period...He does NOT correspond via internet, phone calls only, AND phone calls on Mondays and Tuesdays, ONLY!!! 1-573-392-7378
I mentioned Cliff, because he's the Quadrajet master. He has parts made that no one else offers. His accelerator pump seals are ethanol resistant, others may claim such, but are likely NOT.
Cliff can sell someone needing a Quadrajet refurbished, ALL the parts needed, Jets, metering rods, what ever. He can tailer your rebuild with the EXACT parts needed for your specific engine, AND get it right on, the first time. Getting your carb built for your specific engine/vehicle is NOT something a lot of builders can do.

It's good to hear many that have had good results with other builders.
I hear many folks going to this new, self adjusting fuel injection. I wouldn't have anything to do with it. A properly built and tuned Quadrajet will out perform those units, every time, and no need to completely rebuild a fuel system!!!

Mark, Just a thought...
Find someone to do the work, see if they will let you buy the parts. Get ALL the parts from Cliff, including the shaft bushing kit.

Re: Looking for a good carb rebuilder

I will agree that Cliff has a long and excellant reputation with the quadrajet .
You could not go wrong dealing with him.

I was unsure if Jon still rebuilt carbs. Thanks for the clarification.

Re: Looking for a good carb rebuilder

Business must be slow at a shop I use, suddenly the owner wants to rebuild my carb. The carb works quite well as is, but what the heck, it's kind of a project. You should see this guy's shop, clean as a whistle. He's setting me up with a divorce choke as well -looking forward to it.

A childhood friend has worked for him 45 years now, amazing to me. He's short and skinny, you should see him on the "diving board" above an engine compartment. He's a surgeon and everything spotless. The shop gets the maiden start on my C10.
