i'm in the process of this but instead of welding the brackets i welded studs to the bumpers i used square shanked bolts that fit the holes and welded the face and around the back the main thing is the front has to be smooth and free of air bubbles or pits ,you have to find a shop that triple plates or at least copper plates first then some of the pitting can be covered and the chrome sticks better no flaking or peeling .
the bracket thing is ok if you have smaller bumpers the studs give you a little more alignment.
good luck !
i have pics if you want to see some of the bumpers after we welded them?

let me check if i understand correct. you got some bolts with a square head and welded the square head in place of the hole in the bumper? you welded from the back of the bumper right? and then you used the bolt to bolt in on the brackets. did you weld the brackets to the bumper as well or are they just attached to the bolt thats been welded to the bumper?

i think id like to use your idea as well as my idea as well and use the square headed bolts and weld the bracket to the bumper for extra support.

AND YES I WOULD LIKE SOME PICTURES
