FEAR:Having the starter fall on your face.

Well today I managed to remove the starter to replace the solenoid coil. As I loosened the first long bolt, I was like cool....this will be easy. As I loosened the second one and felt the weight bearing down on my weak left arm, I thought, man that would suck if it came crashing down on my face!!!! That thing is heavy. SO I changed the solenoid and all is good in 'Ignition Land'

I finally wired up the back side markers, looks reeeeaaaaaaal good at night. I also figured out why the back up lamps weren't working. They were not getting ground or sumptin' because the switch I had was all metal and when I would place it in the choke opening on the dash, it would spark and the lights would go out, so I just wrapped the thing in electrical tape and all's well that ends well.

starters are evil, i had a greasy one get away from me and smack me in the cheek once, and another fell off the spring and landed on my finger, that was a starter from a 6.2 diesel, they are heavy.....the guys in the shop looked at me funny when i used the drill press to relieve the blood pressure from under my fingernail!!!

I've had one drop on my chest. I was putting it back on when some grit dropped in my eyes (and yes, I was wearing safety glasses, but the rims have an open space in between the lenses). So, I'm holding up the starter with one hand, trying to clear my eyes with the other. I scooched back a little, fearing I'd drop the starter on my nose because of my weak right arm (due to surgery). Next thing you know I got the wind knocked outta me; there was the starter, sitting on my chest.

Just a quick warning about relieving the pressure of a finger nail bruise with a drill press....DONT DO IT..... I saw a guy get his finger pulled up the bit that way....ouch..just take a bit and twist it with your fingers if you have too....

I droped one on my face one....luckily i was only holding it about 3" above my face. My glasses kinda kept it from messing up my bursing me....having 4 eyes isn't always a bad thing, lol.

That's another reason I like hi-torque, mini-starters. They don't Weigh as much. However, I think I'll go home and try lifting 12 ounce weights with both arms! That way, one shouldn't be weaker than the other!

The only starter I ever caught with my face (lips actually) was from a 6.2 diesel. That was heavy SOB. I would have cussed it for hours if I could speak!

Thats why my face stays from danger,i put some wood or something to cushios its blow if it does fall,but i dont stick my head under it.wonder if thats why some of the real bad hillbillys are missing front teeth?

I dropped a BIG adjustable wrench on my face before! Stung for a while, but was nothing compared to a starter, haha. When I change starters, I always keep my face outta the way. One of my first starter changes, I had a close call so...

I once had a 203 T-case fall on my chest while working it up into place. I wasn't trapped or anything, but gol darn was that thing heavy!!

When I actually worked on my starter I was at my home town visiting the folks. I was fearing the starter, so I almost called my mom out (dad at work, brother out of town) to tie a rope around it and help me ease it down. Actually she wouldn't mind, she always comes out when she hears something different going on with my truck....or she has to know cause I show her :p. I am out of town most of the time cause of school and the truck is in my home town(getting fixed), so she is my relay person when I need to tell my dad something that I fixed or need before I leave. So my mom knows a few things.......case in point:
My girlfreinds dad came over and helped me fix the loud whining noise coming from the engine at high throttle. It was just a loose fan belt. He left, I came inside, and later that night I left. The next day I called her and told her that I had replaced the master cylinder......and she said "oh ok, but I thought you fixed that loud noise, I told your father you did anyways, it sounded like it..."
I told her I did....what a great mom....always ahead of the game!!!!
So for all you younger guys....like me, and maybe you older guys....moms and dads and family are always there to help!!!!

I think the starter on a 350 is light compared to a 440 mopar starter. had one of those drop on my hand.

The worst thing about dropping anything on yourself when you are under the truck is your reflexes. I automatically sit up when I get a gut full of weight. Then your head hurts too!
