A couple of transmission questions

I'm working on my project 70 this morning and I was wondering what this sensor looking thing is behind one of the shift arms. This is a 3/speed manual. Also what transmission do I have? I have heard Saginaw or Muncie. The truck is a V8 350 with 3 on the tree. Jere are all the markings on the case.

Seeing that it is in the front of the case I would take a stab at it being for emissions indicating shifting into final gear for the vac advance to work.

How many bolts holding on the side cover

That’s a good stab at calling it the transmission controlled spark. TCS for short.
That ‘sensor’ is actually a ground switch. Completes the circuit for the switch up on the intake manifold.
If you’re not using it leave it there. The thread on it is unique and a normal plug won’t fit and seal.

There are 7 bolts holding the side cover not counting the two bolts for the shift arms.

That’s a Muncie.
Saginaw also has seven bolts.
Easy ident is bolts on cover position.
Sag has one bolt in the centre top, Muncie has 2 spread apart close to the corners.
