Time capsule non c10 quadajet question
Got a question on a non c10. Hope that’s ok but the carb is a very similar Quadrajet that’s used on our C10’s. So much knowledge on this board I thought this would give me good info as it usually does.
1986 el Camino 14,000 miles The idle is a bit high and even with cables pulled off the carb it won’t return to idle stop unless manually turned back and has a bit of resistance. More resistance than just new return springs will cure Gonna dig deeper and check choke side and high idle set points but choke was fully open at idle. Obviously the car sat in storage for extended periods but usually driven a bit year year. it’s dads car/truck and some health issues kept him away for 3 years. Is there something I should look for or a common problem that occurs with this symptom? I did WD40 on moving parts but didn’t help Any advise or info appreciated. Thanks RRM

Re: Time capsule non c10 quadajet question
I had one that someone had removed the primary throttle shaft to re-bush it and when they installed the plates back on the shaft they didn’t get them centered equally. One side hung up on the bore enough to cause an elevated idle.
Had to loosen the staked screws and re-centre both. Good looking ride! Your dad’s got style! |

Re: Time capsule non c10 quadajet question
I’ll get carb pics ASAP. One owner vehicle so nothing was tampered with.
Thanks RRM

Re: Time capsule non c10 quadajet question
If bushings have not been installed, Geezer#99 still has a line on the probable cause, it's just that the carburetor base plate may be the culprit. This is a very common problem. Spritz some carb cleaner on the primary throttle shaft (both sides) and see if the idle changes. If it does, that's likely the problem.

Beautiful ELCO ! I worked at a Chevrolet dealership in CT when these where new. We sold a ton of them, mostly maroon. The Cho Cho SS conversion was very popular.

Re: Time capsule non c10 quadajet question
I stopped there today and backed off the choke. Idle back where it belongs when it’s warmed up. All good.
Thanks RRM
