2000 GMC 1500 transmission question

Looked at a truck a friend is selling. It was his cousin`s who passed away. I drive it today and 1st gear takes forever to shift into 2nd. Then on the freeway at 65mph I stepped on it and it dropped 2 gears, revved high and went nowhere. The fluid is full, red and not burnt. I think its got a issue but my buddy thinks that maybe since it has a hypercharger his coulsin messed with the shift points. I can get the truck pretty cheap and even if I put a tranny in it its still a good deal but curious what you guys think.

I figured it did but my friend thinks it has to do with the hypertech programmer. Ive never messed with one of those so not sure how they effect the transmission. It doesnt seem to slip any other time. Thanks for the input

Re: 2000 GMC 1500 transmission question

4l60e trannys are not the best from the factory as far as shifting crisply and responsively. If some one has reprogrammed or tuned the tranny it can greatly improve it or cause issues. I would have a good transmission guy look at it as they are not the cheapest to rebuild redo. They may just find a bad program load and be able to fix it with reprogramming.
