Locations for mounting Power Steering pump on 69 C 10
The two bolts that mount the power steering bracket to the motor sheared of at the holes where they entered the block. These are the bolts holes, one above the other, that are just to the right of the water pump as you look into the engine from the radiator. I think this is the standard mounting location for such a power steering pump. Just couldn't get good photos of the bracket.
I drilled out the bolts and inserted Heli Coils but am not optimistic this will hold up as I did a pretty crappy job of drilling the out the bolts. Are there any alternative locations for mounting a steering pump on a 69 C 10? Thanks for your comments. |

What engine ?
You could try other inserts like the keen insert to repair the threads Or drill tap out to a size biger bolt if the bracket allows Other option would be weld up the hole and re drill and tap it out I should mention welding cast iron requires procedures follwed on how to do it correctly Last edited by gmc684x4; 09-16-2020 at 07:05 PM. |

To GMC. All those are great ideas but I really struggled getting through those bolts as far as I did. I just don't have the drill bits that can get through those bolts. If you have any thoughts on bits or the kind of drill to use use please share. Further drilling is my last choice that why I am looking for an alternative bracket.
The engine is a crate with 350 with Edelbrock aluminum heads and intake and very old Hooker headers. |

Re: Locations for mounting Power Steering pump on 69 C 10
I have learned when dealing with a tough area I pull the engine to get better access and be able to deal with it at a 90 degree angle some times use a dremmel to flatten out the broken bolt so i could drill into it square and use a centre punch i have a few times
Did you use a grade 8 bolt ? they are harder i would assume harder to drill as well i only use grade 5 bolts on accessories Stainless bolts require a stainless drill bit to drill out as well Other Option is call you local machine shop and ask them how much to fix |

Good Ideas GMC but all more complex than just using a different mount if such a thing exist.

67 72 73 87 88 98 setups all use those bolt locations
Fixing things right is not always an easy task to do Machine shop will be the easiest for you to get done he will grumble at you that you should have seen him first before you wallered out the holes He may teach you a few things on how to do it right the next time |

Do you have a short or long water pump?
There are brackets that use the water pump bolts to mount to on a long water pump. Not cheap though. |

Re: Locations for mounting Power Steering pump on 69 C 10
I had stock short water pump setup ditching that to use 96 99 vortec serpentine belt setup i picked up a new cs144 140 amp altenator which made my decision for this route as it will better power the old school warn winch that my dad bought new for his truck back in the 70s
I have salvaged a few sets of 90 95 serpentine belt setups to I say salvage as i think new they can be pricey Motor in 2 wheel drive v8 position may limit manual fan options I play with primarily 4x4s when i start up the lowrider i will keep motor in the back postion as well partly to help weight balance and i will have to build a drive shaft anyway |

Re: Locations for mounting Power Steering pump on 69 C 10
I am not saying change over to a serpentine setup as stock gm ones i have mentioned do use the same accessory bolt holes in the block
My point is all stock power steering pump setups that i know of use those bolt holes |
