Re: Looking at intakes and carbs
What do the ports on the underside of the manifold look like? That's the part that will sometimes corrode to where you have a hard time getting a good seal.

Re: Looking at intakes and carbs
There are shaft bushings you can buy from various sources. You drill out the shaft hole in the baseplate and install the bushings, returning the baseplate to better-than-original tolerances, in some cases. I know Cliff Ruggles sells them:

I don't know how visible it is in the picture, but the tag on the left side of the carb (in the picture) is a dyno tag. Every one National sells is tested before it leaves their shop.

Re: Looking at intakes and carbs
There is a core deposit - $50. Mine was junk, but I figured $250 for a completely remanufactured and warranteed Quadrajet is still a really good price.

Re: Looking at intakes and carbs
I took mine to a local carb rebuilder to have the bushings installed. He wasn't happy about just doing the bushings, but finally agreed to do it. I can and have done everything else to my carburetor, and have been rebuilding them on my own vehicles (mostly) since 1969. When I worked as a mechanic, it was just easier to send them to the local rebuilder, though. But for family, it was me for those repairs.
