Cameo info?
I have a opportunity to buy a 1955 cameo----all apart but believe to be 95% complete. Is there a good online source of info? I have a couple days to make up my mind on this and I need info quick! Too many questions to ask here ---TY

Re: Cameo info?
Sounds like a great opportunity...depending on the price vs. the work involved putting it back together. Has he indicated what parts might be missing?....ie: the other 5% of the 95% complete part....this might be a challenge.
Regardless, the Cameo is one of the most collectable trucks ever made so in the long term it might be a good investment. What kind of a price range is he giving you? All Good Coley

Re: Cameo info?
TY----heres what may be missing---tail light housings---Ebay used and bad---$200.00 ea nice $1200!!! inner fenders? no info on these-----bed stainless strips to hold top of sides---repop $600---this truck would not have the correct motor trans and that really seems to cut value.I am finding VERY few parts available and to me ridiculous prices-----average restored seems to be about 20-25K fully correct nice restos $45k and up Having done a few full restos/retomods I figure at least another $15-18K to finish and at best a break even? NO I am not in this for $$$$$ I would love to ride around in a cameo but leery it may sit for some time trying to find parts ect----so----contemplating today and may pass---I promise to pass this on here if I do so someone else may enjoy

Re: Cameo info?
Im pretty sure these are the same as the other 55 second gen trucks from the back of the cab to the nose. Side trim and bed though, that stuff gets expensive if any of it is missing.
Recently saw a hogged out Cameo for sale (wish I remember where) and man did they want a lot of dough for it. Needed a complete resto.

Re: Cameo info?
Well congrats bud. I've always thought they are cool, classy trucks. I've got one pic saved of a red one that was a local here for many years.

Re: Cameo info?
Here it is. I have long thought it was one of the prettiest Cameos ever.

Re: Cameo info?
Finding a 55 block will be extremely difficult and/or expensive- you'll be paying Corvette collector prices.

Here is the 1955 Cameo from the show this weekend, hope this helps a little. I like the step side trucks but this thing was really done nicely.

Re: Cameo info?
That red one is beautiful but that's not a 55 bed, it's a 57. We all have our favorites but the 57 is mine.
Congratulations Chip4wis on getting a Cameo, I'd love to have one. Considering that they were made from late 55 to to early 58, the 55's have the least number of Cameo specific chrome trim pieces's so I think they would be the least expensive to restore. |

Re: Cameo info?
Congrats on picking the Cameo up Chip46wis. In the mid seventies I wanted one of those real bad and even drove 150 miles to try and buy one only to get hit up for a lot more money than I had to spend then.

Re: Cameo info?
Russell - Help me out, I only know the four pictures I posted as a 1955 because of what the card in the windshield of the truck showed at the show. It's clear the grill is not a 1957 but otherwise I'm none the since wiser the bed is from a 1957 since I'm new to these trucks.
Can you tell me what is different so I know for the future. Thanks |

cab and did not have the stainless trim or the Cameo Script on the side of the bed. 56, was the same as the 55, 57, had fender spears that had 3124 on them and the Cameo script and side stainless trim on the beds.(pretty much the most sought after Year) and different grill then the 55&56 58, was the last year for the Cameo, emblems on the fenders had 3100 on them, the Cameo Script and stainless on the sides of the bed.58 had four headlights & different grill. I believe but not 100% sure of is on the early 55 & 56 models is that the rear Bumperettes were not on some years. Only saying this because i have two sets of rear bumpers and they are different, the one for my 58 cameo has the holes for the bumperettes and one does not. Congrats on getting a Cameo! Allen |

Re: Cameo info?
58CameoAZ pretty well summed it up. I don't think I've ever seen an original 55 that wasn't white with maroon on the rear of the cab but that might have changed for 56. 57's and 58's were available in different color combinations. If you google cameo pickup you will get many pictures of them, from stock to modified, which might help you determine what items you are going to need to complete yours. Keep us posted on your progress.

Re: Cameo info?
Bombay Ivory White with Cardinal Red, Probably the most common color on the Cameos,
But later versions had more color choices. and Yes, Google Chevy Cameo Trucks, lots of pics! Allen |
