Re: Low power on 2001 6.0
The dealership shops are usually full of parts changers.
Sounds like your mechanic is not much better. Take it to someone that will actually diagnose it. Don't clear the codes in the ECM. It makes it a lot more difficult to get a read on what's happening.

Re: Low power on 2001 6.0
The two shops I took it to said they would put it on a computer. I think both just guessed at it. First shop charged $100 and had it 3 days. Chevy dealer was $89 and they kept it two days. I remember in the 70's, shops had big diagnostic machines that showed all the cylinders firing. Real impressive machine.. Now it is hand held that spits out numbers. LOL!! Thanks for the reply's

Re: Low power on 2001 6.0
Time was if a decent shop didn't fix the thing and couldn't figure out what's wrong they didn't charge for it.
Nowadays they plug in and expect the machine to tell them a part to change. When that doesn't work they bill you and lie. Either find a trustworthy shop or learn to diagnose it yourself. You will need a bi-directional diagnostic tool and a decent set of service documentation. An Asian Tech 2 clone may still be an option. I bought mine for around $300. Autel has a range of $500-$1000 tools that will do quite a lot. Yes the Maxisys Ultra is very nice but so is the price. Alldata DIY is the people that publish Mitchell independent service manuals IIRC. They're worth a shot for docs.

Re: Low power on 2001 6.0
FYI, Alldata is it's own entity and service manual subscription. Mitchel is similar, much harder to use, and is under the snap on umbrella. We have had both my shop for years and this year decided to not renew Mitchel.

Since you work in the industry and a fellow board member I will take your word on it. Here's Eric O talking about online service info. He mentions NASTF.org as a place to begin searching.

Re: Low power on 2001 6.0
Update: Bought new ignition coils last week. Put them on Tues. evening. Today I drove the truck and it drove a lot better. Will pull my gooseneck dump trailer that is full of scrap metal next week and let you know how it pulls with a load. Was really pleased with todays drive.
