Hey Everyone: I know its been a long time since I've posted anything, figured I'd give all my favorite truck guys a break! Now, I have a 68 Chevy Stepside and I've been offered a 1977 GMC for any parts I might need. My question is I would like to turn my 68 over to disc brakes in the front and I know this 77 stuff will fit on mine or at least I think it will. I need to know exactly what I need to take off this 1977, and how much of a pain in butt will it be to make the swap. I need to do it pretty ASAP as my local junkyard won't hold this truck long before he sends it to its demise. Both the 77 and my 68 are 1/2tons. Any help you can give me in detail a girl can understand would be appreciated. Thanks in advance. JoAnne

From what I understand, the easiest way is to just get the entire front crossmember and put it on your truck. I haven't done the swap myself but there are plenty on here who have. Good luck.

See the post I made here in this thread.
I did this swap from a 72 to 47 but the same thing applies from a 77 to 68. |

Yes I went from 69 to a 74 front end and I swapped the whole front crossmember just had to elongate a hole on each side. The brake hoses will have to be re routed as they go to the front on the newer setup, they wenr to the back of the a-arm on the older ones. You will have to get a master cyl. for disc/drum allso about $20.It is a real easy swap and well worht it.GOOD LUCK

Where are you located? I have a set of front 5-lug 1/2 ton discs, spindles, backing plates, calipers( I think-will have to look again) from a 1972 step side. They are original use, and will need rebuilding...Not sure what I want for them but...let me know...

Z11: Hey, I might be interested in your spindles and other parts. Let me know, I'm in Central CA, where are you located?
