MN 700R4 cross member

I am installing a 700r4 behind a 350 in my 71 Longhorn. What cross member do I use? The holes in the cross member in the truck do not line up. It has the stands on the bottom of the cross member. Do I just drill new holes?

Re: nn 70r4 cross member

That is probably the easiest way to do it. surprised it doesn't line up with any of the existing holes. When I went from a TH350 to a 2004R even though they are the same length, the mount is in a different location, so I just moved the crossmember to the other set of holes,

Re: nn 70r4 cross member

You know Terry, I think he’s describing his factory bell housing mount crossmember. He mentions the stands on the bottom of the crossmember.

Maybe he doesn’t know that that crossmember needs to be removed to install an automatic trans. And a crossmember at the tailshaft installed.

That’s kinda how I read it.

Re: nn 70r4 cross member

Thanks for the replies guys. I do have a cross member under the 700r4. Only two holes line up. One on either side where the cross member meets the frame on the top of the frame.

Re: nn 70r4 cross member

That’s normal.
Whip out the drill and make some holes.
