I just noticed your comment in your signature. Did you try super-tuning your 292?

The 292 in my '64 C-30 got somewhere around 12-15.

I had rear wheel cylinders leaking as well, just soaked them with brake clean and wiped them down a couple of times. Your shoes like they have very little wear. Here is a picture of mine after cleaning.

Haven't done anything to the motor. Goal is to get it roadworthy, then to the shop for the frame shortening. After that work is done, we start on the little stuff.

Those look pretty clean. No grabbing problems after reassembly?

None! Given the price it is well worth trying. I suspect yours will clean up as well. We used to clean semi brake shoes all the time after a wheel seal failure. They were very nasty but cleaned up just fine. Might need a couple applications of brake clean to get it all off.

Nobody makes/sells the gm 15x5 brake shoes anymore. I've called several places over the past year and no one could help. I plan on sending my rear shoes to this local company to be relined.

Centric brakes makes 14x2 shoes for the front and dorman still makes all the rubber brake lines. Raybestos still makes wheel cylinders (although made in China) and can order them from Rock auto. If you need any help with part numbers just let me know.

I got Centrix wheel cylinders for the back from Rock Auto, but have not installed them, yet. Our local Fleet Pride said to bring the shoes in. They felt sure they might have what I needed, although Airdirect is the third person to tell me they clean them, all the time, with no issues. I think I will try that first.
Right now, my biggest concern is the inner wheel seal.

3974846 is the original GM part number for 1969 c50 with 2 speed rear axle

370106A is the updated timken/national/federal part number


Gmpartswiki.com will be your best friend after this

Dorman H38908 is the brake hose from master cylinder to the frame for my 67 and It looks about the same as your 69.

I'm also trying to figure out what rear axle I have. The SPID says it's a T150, but the casting numbers Google a T170.
BTW, what does SPID stand for? Sticker Placed In Dash???

Rubber brake hose master cylinder- Dorman h38908
Rubber brake hose front wheels x2- Dorman h36697
Rubber brake hose rear axle- Dorman h71305
Brake master cylinder- Dorman m630823
Front right brake wheel cylinder- Raybestos wc19091
Front left brake wheel cylinder- Raybestos wc19090
Rear brake wheel cylinder x2- Raybestos wc37159
Rear brake wheel cylinder x2- Raybestos wc37160
5000lb front axle kingpin rebuild kit NO REAM- Stemco k51g
Moog plastic bushing kingpin rebuild kit- 8492n
Kingpin thrust bearing- timken t110
Front wheel bearings x2- timken 3578a and 15103s
Front wheel bearing race x2- timken 3525 and 15243
Front wheel seal- timken 8975s
Rear wheel bearings x2- timken 3982 and 33287
Rear wheel bearing race x2- timken 3925 and 33472
Rear axle vacuum shift diaphragm- Bendix 374451

Should be about everything except rear wheel seal, rear shoes, and brake spring kits.

All axle related parts are the same for 1965-1974 4000, 5000, and 7000lb front axles.

No problems at all, except a little while later was coming off a long steep mountain pass with a 10x50 mobile home behind. That side did some smoking so I guess I burned off the rest of the gear oil residue

Hauled logs with the truck for about five years after that and never did another thing with the brakes.

Final update. Got new wheel cylinders installed, new brake lines, cleaned the brake shoes with Brakleen as Airdirect suggested and everything worked perfectly.
After hounding the guy who said he would do the modifications for me for 7 months, I took the truck to two different shops to get estimates. WAY out of my price range. So, with a touch of bitterness, I sold the truck.

I no longer own a pre-'72 truck!
