55.2-59 Clutch pedal bolt size/type?

I can’t seem to find the bolt and nut to my 58 Apache clutch pedal. Does anyone know what size and type was used originally on these trucks? Also should it be able to move where it bolts on to or should it be tightened so it doesn’t ?

You might want to say which bolt you are asking about. It's been 45 years since I had my 57 panel so that info is pretty fuzzy for me.

It’s the bolt that fastens the clutch pedal shaft (upper assembly) To the lower clutch assembly. It’s a bolt, nut, and washer

you could peruse through this and it may tell you. kinda good to download it anyway if you have one of these trucks. even if it's a modified truck you can look at how it was originally intended to fit together.
look in section 6 sheet 11. it shows the assembly but not the bolt sizes. i would assume it would be the largest diameter bolt that would fit through the hole and with a length that would allow a lock washer and nut on the other side. grade 5 would likely be fine. use a grade 8 if you think it is better. either way it wont break the bank.

important to have the rubber bumper on the pedal arm as well. it bumps against the floor when the pedal is let go so the pedal stops at the same height every time. otherwise the clutch cant be adjusted properly for free play.

Yuppers to that,

If it is the same as what I find on my AD trucks it is 7/16 by 1-1/4 or 1-1/2.

I'd use a fine thread bolt and nut. You want just two or three threads sticking out past the nut when you are done.

Just found and old peddler from 57. Still had bolt in it. 3/8 x 1 1/4 UNC. Not sure of grade because it just had a C on it. Lockwasher and nut.

My eyes may be off or they may have changed, the bolt on mine looked like it had a 5/8 head which is normally a 7/16 bolt.

Best thing is to take the pedal to the hardware and get a 1-1/4 inch long bolt that fits the hole.

from hands on a stock unit that I personally removed from a truck I would say there wouldn't be room for a 7/26 bolt. like mr48 says, just take the part with you to a hardware or auto store and get a 1 and a 1/4" long bolt that fits the hole in the pedal.

I didn't even stop to think that I had a master cylinder, bracket and arm assembly sitting out on my outside work table that I could have checked. Can't find it in the dark though.

picsandinfo posted were from a 57 gmc or a 58 chevy apache.

Thanks, I found the part number and it calls for a 3/8-24 ( 1” 1/8 ) Bolt with nut and lock washer. I ended up using a slightly longer bolt and it worked fine. Thanks

Good you got it figured out. Are you building a numbers matching unit or just wanted the original spec?

No, not at all. I just want a dependable running old truck. The bolt size is specific because of the location, it’s a tight squeeze between the clutch pedal assembly and inner fender. Too long and you can’t get it in from the right, also it would make contact if put in from the left. 1” 1/4 is just right I think, gives you a little more thread to work with the washer in place.
