1988 K30 TBI, 454 left me stranded at the gas pump this morn. Filled it up,no start

Got it towed to the shop with my AMAC tow service. Poured gas down the throat and it fired right up till it burned the gas. Fuel pump? Are there any fuses that would cause a no fuel issue? Not excited about dropping a tank full of fuel.

I could hear my c30 pump running but no fuel at the tbi. Turns out it had a rotten fuel line between the pump and sender. It just pumped gas inside the tank.

Is 88 the first year for pump in the tank on GM pickups ? In the 90's I did change out a in tank pump in a car and when it would not start I took it back out and back to the store thinking it was bad and then found out there was a reset button in the trunk.

fyi long rubber hose down the filler and suck the 20 gal of gas out . no anti suck ball inside . i do it now and then on my truck for lawn mower gas if i happen to run out .

if me and the truck is clean and you have a safe way pop the bed off . makes it better to get at them super short flex hoses from the sender to the hard lines on the frame .

some times if you tap on the bottom of the fuel tank it will start and run i have done that a few times before and it will work just enough time to get you home

Had that happen to my 87 burban . Ran to the pump filled up started and died. Had it towed to my place . Ended up dropping the tank, not fun with 40 gallons of fuel in it.

Any chance something bumped the tank switch while entering/exiting the truck during the last fillup? Since you normally run off the same tank, it wouldn't be a normal 'check item'.

Verify the pump for the tank is working. If not coming on, check the relay under the hood. If good there, check the tank routing switch.

If you can hear the pump run, my money is the pick-up hose burst. The pick-up hoses on the older pumps deteriorate from the ethanol in the fuel. The pump tries to pull the fuel up (to push it forward/out) but the hose has a breach that doesn't allow it to move beyond that point.

I had the above scenario happen to both of my original pumps on the 7.4TBI in my 89 Dually. I found it using the same guide '44th Miss Inf' provided above.

Easy to do and I wish it was that
Probably end up lifting the bed and doing both tanks...no time soon

I suspect this, have not looked at it since the wrecker dropped it off.

Nice truck, reg cab duallies are great. Looks like you're on your way to solving the problem, I just wanted to comment that your truck is a V-30. From '87-'91 the squares switched to R/V, C/K went to the GMT-400 platform out in 1988. Wanted to mention it incase you need to buy parts for this problem shopping for a K30 will get your parts for the next generation of truck.

This thread is also full of great info, if you have dual fuel tanks: http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=754061
