Will 1999 rearend fit on my 68

Sorry, I didn't have time to research, it is being given away free. My current rear-end is geared too high, all the power is on the top end. This posi track is 737 ratio off an suv, thx

Re: Will 1999 rearend fit on my 68

it's probably over 3" wider minimum. 71-87 length housings increased by 1.5". 88-98 (GMT400) housings increased again by 1.5". Seems I recall the track width increased for the next generation GMT800's as well.

That being said, anything can be modified to 'fit'. It just depends on what the application is.

Building a small, high rpm engine with the perfect bore, stroke and rod ratio is very impressive.

You wrote ‘suv’.
Which one?
Some are narrower than stock 68.

If it’s free why are you asking?? What’s the harm in picking it up and seeing if you want to go thru with it. Width aside you’ll have to strip the perches and shock mounts off the axle and the re weld new perches and shock mounts once you get the pinion angle set. It’s not very hard.

I think you misquoted the ratio.. 7.37 is an EXTREMELY LOW ration.. I have never seen a ratio that low except in a race car.. More than likely the ratio is in the 3.08 to 3.42 area.. Quite possibly higher than the one in your truck now... 4X4 SUVs tend to have lower rear ratios, typically in the 3.72 to 4.10 range....

If you're not sure of the SUV ratio, remove the cover and take a picture of the numbers stamped on the edge of the ring gear.. We'll be glad to tell you what's the actual ratio...
