Dirt Every Day
The other day I watched the Dirt Every Day episode where the cut the roof off a F250, and lifted it. I was kind of digging on it. Not enough to do it, but it still got me thinking.
Obviously they have tv budgets, and time frames to work with. But let's say I was to recreate the project. Is there any disadvantage to shortening the body, and welding the bed to the cab portion? Think a F250 version of a CJ8? I am fairly new to 4x4's. Currently I have a 1/2 finished Willy's wagon that I will work on when I take a weeks vaca in December. Plus I had a K20, but I only explored dirt roads with it. |

Ford made Uni-Body trucks in the early 60's. Google for images. Anything possible with a welder and a saw!

Re: Dirt Every Day
Yes, your idea makes sense. I'd like to make my own Blazer using a long bed 67-72. Use a Blazer frame (any year) or shorten the long bed frame. Cut out a square with the wheel opening in it. Cut cab just behind door jamb/cut front of bedside to weld up. Bob rear as desired, measure forward on bedside to cut to length, them get wheel opening into proper place. I think I'd cut the top once the bed and cab were unitized. I wish I had a picture. Saw a 2wd Blazer made that way showing all the cuts. But that one had no doors. Just the bedside running to the front fender. You just climb in.

Re: Dirt Every Day
Yep! A 4wd would need a tailgate up through the middle entry. I'd like to do one low like this one. Just a box with wheels. I guess the beach bum in me wants it
