73 - 87 Disc brake setup sway bar clearance issue

I currently have a 73 - 87 cross member swap for my '64 GMC project. I am having issues mounting a 1-1/4 " factory sway bar. I believe my idler arm is set up correctly, but it interferes with the sway bar install. Currently have 2" dropped springs and spindles. Thanks in advance for the help.

The sway bars were the same design and shape from 63 to 87. When bolted to the frame, where does the idler arm make contact with the sway bar?

Not sure if its the angle of the pictures or if the idler arm just looks like its in the wrong place.

Re: 73 - 87 Disc brake setup sway bar clearance issue

Thats the thread I am using for the sway bar install. I think the idler arm position is off. This is a project I just bought, just trying to sort out what previous owner/builder did. I think the idler arm should be moved toward the rear a bit, just need to sort it out.

I am going to unbold the idler arm, install the sway bar, then reassess the idler arm position.

Comparing your picture to the one from the other thread it appears your idler arm doesn’t have as much bend the other does. That could be the picture angles though.

Re: 73 - 87 Disc brake setup sway bar clearance issue

I think you are right, the angle seems shallow, most other ones I've seen have the castleated nut level with the frame, mine is way below. Ill unbolt it and install sway bar and see where I end up.

Re: 73 - 87 Disc brake setup sway bar clearance issue

if this is correct then my current idler install is off. It's not parallel and looks like it should be back further too.
