brake pedal problems
I dont drive my 72 everyday .Lately when I drive it the brake pedal returns to its normal position very slowly after being applied. They are power disc brakes.I noticed the other day that the tailbrake lights were on. I readjusted the switch at the pedal, but have to pull the pedal to get it to return to normal position. brakes work fine , no fluid loss or grabbing or pulling left or right.they just have been returning too slowly back to position. any answers?

I would try lubing the linkage that is between the booster and the firewall. It sounds like it is sticking. Also, make sure the return spring is ok.

Sounds like the vacuum booster may be bad. See if you hear air hissing around the booster shaft under the hood when the brake is applied....that's another sign.

Sounds like the brake-to-master cylinder rod may be binding, possibly on the rubber boot that goes through the firewall. Good luck and keep on truckin'.....Jerry

It's part of the brake pedal assembly. If I remember when I get home I will take a picture and post it for you.

Krue,
I went ahead and took a picture of the spring in the assembly that I have out. I was not sure if you had to take a picture with the assembly in the truck, (could be difficult). The return spring on a 72 is just above the brake light switch as pictured. Jim |

Krue,
Good pic! I see that you do have an assembly out in the open. With the column under the spring it might be tough to get a pic with the brake assemble installed. Jim |

Hey do you think a missing spring will cause this? Wow I looked under the cab as soon as I seen the Pics and didnt see any spring at all. Thanks for the help, I am going to get a spring and install it. Wonder where I can get the spec. part?
