Lifting a Suburban body - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

It's finally time to put the body back on the frame. The plan is to suspend the body and roll the frame underneath. Then the body can be lowered into position. The back of the body will be suspended by the arms of the rear portion of the rotisserie. The front portion of the rotisserie will be removed and suspended by the piers of concrete block and the board between them on a good set of floor jacks. My concern of course is suspending it this way. Any thoughts on if this will result in damaging the body? The board is a 2x10 on the flat with three 2x4's making a E channel.

This is the only way I could think of doing this besides using chains or straps bolted to the front of the cab.

Looks tip top to me. I love those jack stands! Will you be able to lower the front with those?

That should work. The only thing I might add is maybe a shim or another piece of wood on the outside of the top door jamb to keep the seam from getting rolled or bent. Those dang bodies are pretty heavy. I built a gantry crane and used a 2500lb HF atv winch with a snatch block to try to pick up a rusty burb hull with the doors on it and no seats. It was not happy. I ended up removing the barn doors and front doors to get it off the frame.

Thanks! I’ve had these stands for close to 50 years. They have almost a foot of travel.

Good idea on not rolling the top of the jamb. I’ll try running a saw kerf down the length of the top pieces of wood that the jamb can fit into.
