Interesting truck for sale 68 4x4

There is a truck for sale locally that has some "custom touches" but looks halfway authentic. Description is poor on the for sale ad but it looks like a 68 3/4 ton 4x4 long step side.

What do you guys think, does it look like it was built this way or put together?

Re: Interesting truck for sale 68 4x4

Original body not 5 trucks building 1
Look at the vin it should be a k20 model and being a chevy there should be a partial vin near the steering box on top of the frame rail

I'm digging it, but not interested in a 4X4.

BLASPHEMY!!!!

Looks like it might be original to me. It’s got a lot of potential. It looks like it’s got CST badges on the doors, if that’s the case and it’s original, I bet it’s a rare bird. CST K20 long step can’t be a high production truck. Was the cargo light a 67-72 thing or 69-72? Seems like I remember it might be a 69+ option. That might nail it down as not original.

It is interesting. No cargo light or CST side markers in 68. Any more pics?

Re: Interesting truck for sale 68 4x4

If that's the original Vermillion paint I'd guess the truck is original with personal touches added. That windshield looks like it's been with that truck a very long time but if it's a real CST it should have the stainless windshield trim. The back window has the stainless trim with sliding window, that never happened from factory. I am guessing the truck is an original vermillion K/20 that has has CST door badges, sliding back glass w/trim, later cargo lamp, hood ornament, deluxe side markers added. What stumps me is are the doors with deluxe wing vents original, were doors swapped on, or were vent windows replaced? I guess it could be an original CST that had the windshield replaced 100 years ago

Re: Interesting truck for sale 68 4x4

I was thinking from everyone's comments, that if it's a factory bed light, its a mutt. It does not look like a factory bed light to me though.

Looks like it might be a 68 long stepper 3/4 with a bunch of aftermarket badges/JC Whitney ad-ons. Need to see the VIN to know for sure. The paint sure looks like it might be all original.

Re: Interesting truck for sale 68 4x4

That front bumper looks like a "push bumper". I worked at a small fix-it shop in the late 80's. The shop truck was one of those Jeep Wagoneers that had an aftermarket push bumper installed. Rather then have a dead car close to the shop towed in, we pushed it in. The front bumper like that top picture was covered with a thick rubber cover. When approaching intersections and/or stop signs the pusher driver simply backed off and let the dead car driver use good old fashioned foot power to run the brakes manually. Obviously this didn't work well with a car with no brakes but most local dead ones came in this way.

Keep in mind, in the late 80's there weren't all plastic covered bumpers on everything. Most were chrome and could take a gentle push without any damage.

Based on that front bumper, I'd guess this was a shop truck at one time.

Further, in my opinion, what good is a truck without four wheel drive?

Re: Interesting truck for sale 68 4x4

It looks like a decent truck to get ahold of as long as the price is right.
Do you know if it runs?
The exterior looks to be good enough to buff out and run the patina finish.
As mentioned by the previous comments, there’re lots of add-ones, but they are period, and since it’s 53 years old, it adds to the story

Re: Interesting truck for sale 68 4x4

The for sale ad is below. I’m not going after it so fair game. It’s priced pretty well I think.

The truck is full of weird touches like power windows and a hood ornament. It also has a tach, tilt column AC cab vents etc. looks like the original glove box door is long gone so is the spid as well.

Re: Interesting truck for sale 68 4x4

Some of the 4x4 stuff like the oil fill and upper radiator pipe are there. It very well probably was originally 4x4 and some one just added the stuff like the cargo light and such. Not too bad for 4K.

Re: Interesting truck for sale 68 4x4

Front bumper looks like a chunk of frame rail off of medium or heavy duty truck. A lot of those big trucks come with extra long frame rails out the back. The ends of the frame cut off to accommodate whatever is mounted on the truck. I worked at a place, we built tanks for such trucks. We always had someone nosing around asking for the freeby leftover rails to make something.....like a corn cob engineered front bumper for a Chevy pickup! Lol
