Help With Sonoma Damage - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

The kid banged up his Sonoma. From what I can determine from his story and the scene, he tried to drive up over a snow bank to get on the path that they offroad. When he couldn't get over it, he backed up and figured speed would definitely get him over. Well it sure did. I'm assuming the truck endo'd straight onto the front end. The fenders are both crinkled at the same point. I'm wondering if a radiator support and all metal around it will straighten it out, or if the front frame horns are bent? Any suggestions. No need to comment on the kids stupidity - it's still fresh and I'm still upset. And yes, it is an atv jack that he used to jack the truck up. Apparently his eyes were closed the last 17 years he spent in and around a garage. He thought he would fix it overnight, i guess he gave up at 6am.

Did you get this figured out? It looks to me like the bumper just pushed the core support and fenders up when it hit the ground. I wouldn't think the frame is bent, except maybe the little crumple spots by the bumper.

That's why they get beaters for a first car, because it will get beat on.

Body shop said the frame is bent and it will be $500-600 to repair. With that small of a frame pull bill, i'm assuming it may just be the bumper horns. I had a K5 that had a legitimate bent frame back in '97 - that was $500 then. The neighbor (body man) is going to check it out today.

Yeah, i have calmed down a bit. I don't think he's afraid to look at me anymore. The stupidity still upsets me.

My buddy stopped over and he recalled the time I jumped the local railroad tracks in my K5 after we came home from an Ozzy Osbourne concert. That did not break anything. But, he pointed out that it could have ended very differently - point taken.

Sounds like normal kid stuff to me, but I'll bet it made him more of an adult. I'm sure eventually you will laugh about it together. I can't get either of my kids behind the wheel. I don't know if it's a blessing or a curse.

Back in 2004 my 68 got hit hard and bent both front frame rails bad. The local VoTech fixed it on their frame rack and charged me $17
