Roof seal for Blazer

I'm thinking this isn't the right way to install the seal for the top. If anyone knows the correct installation of these seals please post pics and explain. Thanks for any help you can give me.

I just did my 71 double wall top and it had t shaped plastic pins. I used the pins and some weatherstrip adhesive from 3M. I used painters tape to hold the weatherstrip until it dried. When I removed the tape I put pressure on the weatherstrip to keep from pulling it loose.

Do you know if that's how the factory did it?

I found the info somewhere on the forum while I was searching drip rail deflectors. I'm pretty sure that they were done with the t clips originally.

Looks like pic's of the door window to top seal...correct.

Factory uses a channel the weatherstripping goes into.

Here's the channel.



and the weatherstripping gets pushed into the channel, no adhesive or fasteners used.




use a Flathead screwdriver to push the seal into the metal channel.

I think that is true for the single wall top. There is no channel on the double wall top.

I think I speak for most of us when I say the double wall tops have no channel to fit the weather-strip into AND the repro weather strip for double walls does not have holes in it for the T shaped clips. I have read that there are seven clips per side and they are assisted with 3M 8008 black weather strip adhesive. Gluing alone has not kept my seals in place, must use the t shaped clips from LMC. Part# 30-1601 and they are .95 each!

This top sealing stuff is so confusing. I too have been doing searches and combing through threads over the last couple of months trying to get to the bottom of this.

I bought a Blazer this spring that the owner said was "completely re-sealed, front to back!" ....... and it leaks, badly. The seals are new, no question. Sure doesn't stop the rain though. Not - at - all.

It's a single wall, and I've yet to see any picks of the T shaped clips. Love to see how the assembly is suppose work, and especially how you're supposed to modify the repro weather strip to work with the T shaped clips. As well, how to install the clips, and an adhesive to in order to get the very best seal possible.

You'd think there would be an article from one of the classic truck publications showing the very best way to handle this.

When i did mine, i bought door panel fastners, of the right size. Then just cut round section into a 'T' shape...check out the 'help' section at the parts store

Nice alternative jaros44sr, I'll give that a try when I get to redoing my top. I have the double wall top and used the T inserts and weather strip seal and held up pretty good.

Jeros, what size holes are they for the "T" shaped inserts you made? The single wall has the channel like BobbyK shows above but the double wall needs the inserts. Both should be glued with 3M 8008 adhesive right? When I had my double wall top painted, they filled in the clip holes and the screw holes for the drip rails. I have attached the Blazer image from LMC ONLY as a way to help communication. Pictures help.

I'd love it if someone had a pic of what these T-clips look like installed. Can you see if they were installed if the top is on the Blazer?

The hartop holes are 1/4", and the studs i bought look basically like this. Just cut the top parallel on both sides to fit as required

I wonder if you could use the single wall top channels on the double wall top. My seals were glued/screwed on and are iffy at best. I park it in the shop though, cause I know it leaks...

Just wondering if anyone tried using the single wall channels on their double wall top.

I would try it, I don't like the way my seals are done either. In fact I have used so much 3M trim adhesive it will be difficult to clean it up, better to cover it up with channels if I can find them. I am headed to the junkyard this week. I am always scrounging for something even the Blazer is nearly done.

BTW... The single wall seals have one "T" clip below thw channels as well. Because the repop single wall rubbers for the channel dont have the metal reinforcment in them, I am going to put more than one "T" clip on each side to give the rubber below the channels more support.

Thanks for bringing that topic up Tom; doubled wall top has the reinforcement in the weather seal where as the single dosen't. With the reinforcement, t-clips and glue (done in the heat of the summer) you should get a decent seal.

Hey all: I carefully followed everyone’s advise installing new weather stripping on my double-wall top in my 72 Blazer. Problem is, I now have a good 1/2 in. gap between the top of the window when fully extended. What did I do wrong?

Not sure if you figured it out or not - are the doors aligned? I just redid my top (single wall with the seal rail) and I have a little air gap in some places (say 1/4") which I think for me is probably door alignment - but I get the sense these things were always awful seals. I got all new seals for my top all round and mine still leaks - I am starting to get the feeling that I will never get it to seal up tight like a normal car. For you if you have a double wall top are the seals in the right position? Are the doors aligned?

Thanks gritboy. I've checked the doors for alignment and they're solid. That's not the issue. I'm starting to think the gap is caused by the previous owner using the wrong length windows. I'm researching if Blazers used longer windows (due to the lack of a frame and/or the removable roof) versus standard C10s and the previous owner used a standard window. Stay tuned.

I'm not saying it's not possible - but i've never heard of Blazer glass vs c10 glass. They should be the same.
