Attaching Emblems To Valve Covers?
Has Anyone Done This. Thinking About Drilling Holes In My Valve Cover, Pressing The Emblem In and Using RTV On The Back Side.
Any Ideas? Thanks |

Stamped steel stamped steel but chrome Alum I don't like the idea of putting holes in a part that whole job is to contain oil. I put emblems on a set of stamped steel painted covers , I use liquid nails construction adhesive . I uses a toothpick to put just enough glue on the back of the emblem, and then put emblem on where I wanted it, and clamped it down with a wood clamp. Cleaned any glue that got squeezed out, with a Q-tip and paint thinner. An other set I used 3m emblem double sided tape (black) These were alum covers. I put testors model clear on the tape edges after install with a very thin /model/art brush. This was only to keep the tape from soaking up any oil that might find it's way to the top of the cover, not likely but a just in case, most likely was not needed. Hardest part was cutting the tape to follow the emblem shape, but a slow hand and a razor is all that is needed. I have not done chrome As I have never been a fan of trapping heat in the engine oil. and chrome valve covers/ timing cover/oil pan just trap the heat in the oil. |

I think I would use a type of JB weld that is heat resistant

Re: Attaching Emblems To Valve Covers?
I agree with chevRacefan, it's difficult to attach an emblem to a valve cover. Putting holes in a valve cover have never worked for me.
I plan to make some small stands out aluminum sheet plate. Cut them out to fit the emblem, and leave a strip to attach to a valve cover bolt. Polish the bare aluminum. If you do it correctly, it can look nice. I will probably put one on each side of the engine, attached to a valve cover bolt, with the emblem near the air cleaner. My 68 is an original 396 engine (that I STILL have!!!). 68's did NOT have engine siaze emblems on the fenders. like later pickups did. I just plan to put mine under the hood, hopefully looking good!!! |

If they're steel can you embed magnets in the emblem? If aluminum could you weld in aluminum bungs to screw the emblem in?

I used 3M double sided tape of two different engines. They have been on both cars for several years with no problems.
