Hi All,

I was on FB marketplace and ran across a C10 with toolboxes instead of the stepside fenders. I hadn't really ever seen this before, but really like how it looks. I've been casually looking for a shortbed stepside C10, but now I'm leaning towards the utility box.

I'm just wondering how many of these were made? I assume not as many since I haven't really seen a lot of them. Probably were more for the C20 and C30 that got the utility boxes?

I'd like to see what's out there.

I may be wrong but I would think that the toolboxes on the step bed were installed by an aftermarket outfitter. If that is the case we would have no actual numbers. They are rare because they were work vehicles and got used hard but the few that survived are now getting popular.

I've got a set on a longbed C2500 GMC. They are made by Koening. Before Rawson. They are pretty cool and I plan on making a trailer with the bed someday unless I find the right truck...LOL. A short bed set probably pretty damn hard to find.

Where I saw a lot of short bed Stepside with these boxes were on early cable TV company trucks, square bodies, and more in western states than back east. These bedside bins were obviously a cheaper option to a utility body, but they really didn't give very good tool storage space for the money. A set of bed rail mounted boxes could hold about the same amount while allowing many tools that wouldn't fit in the bedside units to fit. I gather your interest in them is not in the utility end of things. Just putting the info out there. They are cool as heck for the look!

Thanks for the info. I assumed they were factory options, makes sense that it was aftermarket.

You are correct, I like them for the looks and not the utility part of them. With how rare they are I probably won't be able to find one.

I'll just continue looking for a nice stepside C10.
