Green dash pad for 67-68

For anyone interested in acquiring a green 67-68 dash pad, this thread is meant to share info about the process I’m going through that will hopefully make this possible. If you’ve shopped for this shade of green dash pad you’ve probably found that it’s not offered by the parts vendors who carry the common parts lines. I found that USA1 carries an aqua dash pad that would match the rest of my interior, but would still not be the same darker green as my pickup originally had. Randy at USA1 told me he dyes dash pads in custom colors and he would add this color to his portfolio if I could provide a sample of it.

That led me to post a WTB ad on the parts board for a 67-68 green dash pad that I could use as a donor for a color sample. That WTB ad kinda turned into a discussion thread, so after I acquired a pad I decided to move the rest of the discussion here.

In the next few posts I’ll do my best to document what color it is I’m trying to recreate, as well as the progress for this project.

Re: Green dash pad for 67-68

Here’s a pic of my SPID. This pickup originally came with the shade of green dash pad that is common in 503 green pickups in 67-68, but was replaced by me before I owned the pickup and before I knew how hard it would be to find another one in this shade of green.

So, I assume 603 GREEN CLOTH TRIM in 67-68 gets you this dash pad color, but I’m not sure if Z62 CUSTOM GROUP comes into play at all.

Re: Green dash pad for 67-68

Here’s a pic of the target color (not my pickup, pic was snagged from another thread). Except for the paint color and the floor covering, this interior matches my original color scheme. Does anybody know this pickup? Is it’s floor covering original (carpet?) or an aftermarket upgrade?

Here’s a pic of mine from August ‘69. Hard to see the dash pad but the aqua floor mat is interesting.

Re: Green dash pad for 67-68

Progress on the dash pad from USA1: southernparts provided a dash pad from a ‘67 he has (Thank you, Woody!). The pad was pretty faded, but Randy at USA1 used heat to bring back the color. Here’s a pic of what he took from it, with some carpet color samples as a reference.

Re: Green dash pad for 67-68

That is great
I remember asking goodmark and vendors lots in the 90s to start making the slim gmc top bar for 67 68 gmcs

It is the collective of our group asking our vendors that so many reproduction parts are now available

Re: Green dash pad for 67-68

Saw your picture above from 1969 and it reminded me of a couple I have of mine with the original owners.

This is the father and son, but I have another that I haven't scanned with husband and wife like yours.

I’ll post here USA1 comes through. Hopefully they get the color just right.

Re: Green dash pad for 67-68

I received my dash pad from USA1 last Thursday but unfortunately it was colored to match the rest of the aqua interior, rather than the darker green I was going for. I had been checking with them a few times along the way during the last 7 months since I put in my order. They tried several options to match the original example I had shipped to them, but USA1 and its suppliers can't match it either by machine or by eye. A miscommunication at USA1 led to my pad being colored aqua and shipped to me without any prior notice.

Needless to say, I'm pretty disappointed. I'm not sure whether I'll keep this aqua one or return it and try again with another shop/vendor. That decision might hinge on whether I get some good ideas or recommendations from my friends on this board.
