700R into 73 C20

Just finished dropping the 700R into my 3/4 ton. Wanted to let those considering this swap know that my driveshaft was a perfect fit. No shortening and it has about 1" showing on the yoke. I was pleasantly surprised.

What did you do for you linkage?? I can not get mine to go into L1. I'm still using the column linkage. I think I need to make the space on the column under the hood longer?

Thanks
Paul

I think that there is a detent in the column itself that will not let it get into 1st.

I have to agree, I don't think that you will ever get it into first unless you change the shifter.

I remember reading somewhere that any GM vehicle setup for three foward gears will not get low.

I have a 700 in my '77 truck. I can get into all gears including 1st, but it took some patience trying to adjust the linkage right. so- it can be done but it obviously wasnt designed for it.

Same here. I have a 700R4 in my 76 C-10 and it goes into all of the gears. It just looks a little out of wack because when in its in Drive the indicator on the column looks almost like its in the neutral position.
