Exclamation Fuel gage pegs out

I picked up this K-5 a few months ago. With the ignition off, the gage reads a little over full. Turn the ignition on and it pegs out way past full. I found one tan wire going to the sending unit and checked the voltage and there is none. I'm stumped........

I would check the all the grounds and clean them up and make sure they get good contact.

Welcome to the board

Either the wire is grounded out somewhere or the sending unit is bad. check it with an ohm meter to see if it is grounded out.

I have to agree with mylilbowtie, the guage will read high with a bad ground, loose connection. If the wire was shorted to ground, the gauge will read empty.

What should the ohm meter usually read when it is full? And empty?
