Summit Headers

Has anyone used the summit headers SUM-G9006-SS stainless steel headers on their C10 builds. I am not looking for a coated or painted header and this one seems to be one of the few out there. I also have a 70 C10 3 on the tree and I have heard these work well on a manual truck. I was wondering if anyone had used them and wanted to know fit and finish. The have some of the thickest flanges I have seen. Any help would be great especially for a 3OTT guy like me. Thanks

Re: Summit Headers

I'm planning on using these headers. The price is the lowest I've seen for stainless headers. There's a good review with photos right there in the link you posted from someone who installed them on a 70 C10 without any real issues.

Re: Summit Headers

There's a 67 C10 review where the motor mount had to be notched. That doesn't sound too good.

Re: Summit Headers

I may just attempt it because they are one of the only sets I can find that says fit 3 OTT.
All others are coated or painted and have thin flanges. I am used to multiple companies with quality stainless headers that fit for corvettes. I have owned a C5 and a C6 Z06 and never has any issues with companies like American racing.or kooks but they don't really offer anything for these trucks. Kooks does but requires modifications. If I would have LSswapped it would not have been much of an issue.

Re: Summit Headers

I have a set on my 69. Decent header just wish they didn't sit as low as they do.

Same here, way below the frame.

Re: Summit Headers

Agreed...the Summit SS headers worked well for me, but they do hang a bit lower than I'd like.

Did you have any interference problems between the headers and engine mount brackets or frame rails?

No sir, no interference between the headers and brackets or frame, however I have my 350 in the I6/4x4 SBC position further back towards the firewall.

Re: Summit Headers

I’m guessing you already know this but if not stainless headers discolor from the heat.

Yes. I had kooks stainless headers on my Z06 and I likes how the discolored.

Re: Summit Headers

I did some research on these headers before I got them. I wanted a set of 304SS headers that would last, and I don't mind the bluing/discoloration. I also like Summit's no-hassle return policy if there's a problem. I believe they are made by Flowtech for Summit. If you look at Summit P/N 11500FLT, they have the same bends and design as SUM-G9006-SS, but the stainless headers appear to have a thicker flange.

A few years ago there were complaints that the mounting holes weren't correctly aligned, but that has since been fixed. Mine bolted up to both my old GM iron heads and my new Brodix aluminum heads without a problem. I saw a review that one '67 C10 owner needed to notch the right side motor mount bracket to clear one header tube.

Re: Summit Headers

I have these headers on my '67 with a 350. As I stated in my review I did notch the passenger side mount about 1/4" to give more clearance to one header tube. I did it more to make sure it didn't rattle against it when the motor was under load. The other ting I did was swap out the bolts that came with it. While they did work they only went into the head about 3/16's to 1/4". I wasn't comfortable with that so I bought some longer ones to use. As far as hole alignment and ease of install they were great. Put the header bolts in finger tight until all where in then torqued them down. No major issues.

As far as how low they hang mine hang 4"-5" below the frame. Since I don't plan on lowering it the weeds they will work fine. Overall I am happy with them and would get them again.

Re: Summit Headers

Crap! Summit said ship date 3/3/21 originally now showing 5/25/21. This is so frustrating! May have to find another option.
